Incredibly they're back Here's Trash Glam BabyIf you can put aside the negativity most people probably feel towards their singer the song is pretty good, but then I'm a sucker for anything that references Glam rock Back in the day I also quite liked She's So Modern and Mary of the Fourth Form but then they got quite annoying quite quickly Forthcoming album 'Citizens of Boomtown' is out 13th March 2020
Any fans here?

I didn't mind The Boomtown Rats at all although I was quite selective which tracks I would listen to. Some were very much 'take it or leave it' but my preferences were for tracks like "Banana Republic", "Someone's Looking At You", and "Diamond Smiles". One track which does bring a smile for happy memories is "Like Clockwork" as it was on a various artists compilation album that I'd bought for Annie very soon after we first started dating.

Can't think who would be interested in them after all these years beyond the nostalgia circuit, 36 years is a long gap between new material. Geldof has a habit of insulting the paying audience at gigs, I don't think it's meant to be tongue in cheek either. Quite like the odd song of theirs but Geldof is an arrogant so & so, they were a pretty good pop punk band but they weren't in the same league as The Buzzcocks for instance. I think Geldof fancied himself as a rock star to the detriment of the rest of the band.

My favourite of theirs is Rat Trap, that was brilliant, one of the best records of 1978. Can still remember driving home from Manchester one cold night in October 78 in the Austin 1100 with it on the radio, loud, with the window down and me singing along to it!

October '78? I was still buzzing around on my Suzuki AP50 so there was no music on the move there, good times aplenty though. Rat Trap was the better of the 'earlier' singles but She's So Modern used to irritate me. Thinking about it again Mary Of The Fourth Form was another good'un. Sam

Alrightish track LE.
Both The Rats and even Bob Geldoff I'm a bit indifferent too can take or leave, suppose they're one of those bands/artists I don't really like or hate. Rightly or wrongly Bob does cop some flack but
Thanks for posting LE.

Funnily enough I watched 'Bullseye' last night & there was this question- 'who has children called Peaches Honeyblossom & Fifi Trixiebelle?' to which Jim Bowen quipped 'poor kids, imagine growing up with a name like Geldof'

I like both of those old tracks Lord Em. And Rat Trap was excellent. Austin 1100's did OK too. " Just buy the f*****g album" ................. for those who remember Live Aid.
