Mistletoe & Wine Flippin heck, that's worse than Mull of Kintyre! First single to sell over 2 Million copies. Number 1 for 9 weeks. Best selling single of all time in UK until Band Aid. Still the best selling (non-charity) single in UK. Opinions are like are like....well, you know the rest but you can't argue with facts. I also think Cliff gets a bad rap. He was huge in the late 50's & 60's and had success in the 70's and 80's too. John Lennon said that before Cliff, there was nothing. We seem to love to knock people off their pedestal in this country, in Cliff's case probably fuelled by his devotion to Christianity. Personally, I don't mind Mistletoe & Wine. Certainly better than the manufactured crap we get from Simon Cowell.

Carrie, Devil Woman, A little In Love, We Don't talk Any More to name a few that I do like. Personally, I don't like Mistletoe & Wine at all though - much like the manufactured crap which I loathe. Mistletoe & Wine Oh no. Worse I think it start's raising it's ugly head this and next week... could be worse could've been the Alud Lang Syne'd appropriated for (sic) The Millennium Prayer. Now that was BAD!

Cliff started off OK, his record Move it, from 1958 is a great bit of rock n roll, but became bland. He then had a good run in the late 70s/early 80s with Devil Woman, Miss you nights, I can't ask for anything more than you, Carrie and Wired for sound. He then reverted to type and became bland once again. I thought mistletoe and wine was awful, millennium prayer was even worse.

Another bandwagon we'll get with these TOTP 1988 repeats is the Neighbours/Scott n Charlene thing which raises it's ugly head during December and January '89.
Don't know much of Angry Anderson beyond Suddenly and his appearance in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome but Suddenly was such a over-blown rock/power ballad track I can live without. Surely there were tracks in positions 50-41 the week's that was in the Top 40 that deserved a shot more at the 40 than that bland dirge?
As for Kylie n Jason's Especially for You... absolute corny cash in tosh from S/A/W, hated it then and STILL do, mind you it's eclipsed by the $@#! awful Johnny and Denise (sic) cover which came out in '99.
