Ive just watched this which was on earlier this week and thought it was quite good. Stephen Tompkinson starred as Eddie Braben, who was the writer for Morecambe and Wise at their most successful period during the 70s, also Liz White was in it as his wife.
It recreated the period atmosphere and detail quite well and it showed Eddie being put under strain due to the pressure of having to constantly keep coming up with new material and commuting between his home in Liverpool and London.
i didn’t know the two guys playing Eric and Ernie, but they did a decent job of them, John Ammond, their producer, was a familiar face who I couldn’t place. Recommended

This sounds good. I'd like to see it sometime. I was watching a clip on youTube a few hours ago of Ernie on breakfast tv, right after Eric's death. Ernie was great and talked about their career, and the stress of performing. He said Eric was already trying to slow things down, but just one show can be really stressful.

I saw this when it was first broadcast last Christmas and still have it recorded. I thought Stephen Tomkinson played the role really well, not that I knew Eddie Braben, and portrayed the pressures well.
Like most people I watched M&W but never considered what it took to keep churning out the material for them. I knew they had writers but the program demonstrated his input to their success so well. The actors playing M&W were okay though not outstanding but as the focus was for once on Braben they were secondary anyway.
Certainly worth a re-watch.
