I've just been watching a bit of this in readiness for doing a dedicated locations thread. Noticed a bit of a mistake. The start of the film focuses on the blaggers following a car before a rigged crash enables them to rib the occupant. The car in question, which incidentally, was also used in The Avengers TV Series & the film "Charlie Bubbles" a few months earlier, was a 1966 Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R. It was a BMC Press car. The mistake... Here is the car prior to the Robbery. Then it crashes heavily into a skip A few minutes later, while the blaggers are making their getaway, the car miraculously appears again, parked up in a street! Also, notice when the car has crashed into the skip... It looks very much like there is no engine in the shell. Had there have been I wouldn't have though the grille would have given way so readily with a 4 litre lump the back of it. Gene.

Well spotted Gene. I've had a look at the scene where the man is removed from the car, when the copper climbs over the bonnet it looks like the car is not touching the skip, the angle & the smoke disguises the shot. I expect they simply rammed a copy of the front shell of the car like a barrow into the skip to get the shot of the impact rather than waste money on damaging an expensive car. If they had used the actual car you can bet that they would've shot it in such a way that we'd see the whole of the car crashing- a 'money shot', instead we just see close ups, a giveaway that the real car wasn't used.

Definitely a sacrificial shell used for the stunt. If you look again at the grab I posted, you can clearly see the unpainted inner wing. On a fully fitted Vanden Plas Princess, this section would have had the brake servo and window washer bottle attached here, but you can see that it is blank and the attachment plates are unused. Peter Yates also directed an excellent film in 1973 called 'Friends of Eddie Coyle'. Starring Robert Mitchum, it's a typical low key, down beat crime movie of the era. Maybe of interest to forum members if the Amazon ratings stack up? Incidentally 'The Deadly Affair' has had a recent blu ray release. I'm sure if you liked 'Robbery' or ' The Ipcress File' it'll be worth a view. A proper old school, London set, Cold War drama, great stuff.

I think I spotted the Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R (HOF 302D) from the start of Robbery earlier tonight in an episode of The Avengers (Patrick Macnee/Diana Rigg) on ITV4 titled "Who's who?"

Steed You did indeed Steed. It was in a couple of episodes I think. The Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R was a BMC supplied car with it's HOF (Birmingham) plates, as were a lot of the cars in Robbery. I spotted a couple of continuity errors while watching today too. At the end of the car chase, as the Jag approaches the School, we can see a lot of cars parked up on the right side of the road. Amongst those cars is a dark coloured VW Beetle (circled below)(Trust me, you can see it more clearly on the big screen). Shortly after Jack has passed the kids, we see that side of the street through the Jag screen and the road is empty up to the VW Beetle. The same scenes have another continuity error. As Jack approaches the school crossing, we can see the pillars level with him at the fronts of the houses on the right (Circled) Then AFTER he has driven through the children, the camera cuts to a close up through the Jag windscreen where we can see he has gone backwards up the street and is back almost level with the same pillars (circled). Going back to an earlier point in the chase, we see the beat Bobby smash the Jag screen with his truncheon. Just seconds later, we see the Jag with it's windscreen fully intact!
Out of curiosity, I also ran a check on a couple of standout registration plates spotted during the chase. The car on the right in the following shot is a 1959 registered Sunbeam Rapier Series 3 wearing the registration 1MPK. The car no longer survives, but the registration does and is currently worn by a 2016 Mercedes Benz CLS. As the camera pans hard right, we see a 1966 Beardmore Paramount MKVII taxi wearing the registration DAN375D. This was first registered on 11th October 1966. Remarkably, it still exists and is still wearing the same registration, although it has been SORN and it's latest MOT ran out on 10th July 2015. It passed every MOT from 2007 to 2015. Gene.
