I’ve not properly watched the race yet (will do) but another class performance from Lewis Hamilton in both quali and the race.
Lewis’s quali lap probably set the tone for the race and again it seems that Vettel and Ferrari are doing everything they can to lose the title race this year. That lap was stunning and considering the Mercedes were meant to be on the back foot at Marina Bay and Ferrari way ahead the free practice sessions just seems the Merc’s and Lewis are just that little bit more experienced and calm/cool in this battle than Ferrari and Vettel. Also Seb’s brush with the wall in FP2 probably cost him valuable time/track data which may have put him on pole but even then the quali and race strategy from Ferrari (undercut) just smacked of headless chickens for me. Also the blow of ditching Kimi for 2019 has probably lost Vettel/Ferrari a decent rear-gunner for the rest of the season too as lets be honest if I were Kimi I’d switch off now.
Good result for Verstappen too considering some issues with his Red Bull. No doubt Max is a good talent just needs to use his head more and stop being such a spoiled brat at times (he’s worse than Hamilton for that IMHO) then I’ll warm a bit more too him. Still time and at least he’s not a ‘Mad’ as the media make him out to be.
Seems a bit of a also-ran affair for Ricciardo and Raikonnen but with both leaving their teams at the end of the season have to expect this. With one exception a as expected result in the midfield but nice that Fernando Alonso got 7th at a track he always seems to go reasonably well at… well the inaugural ‘Crashgate’ race he won LOL! Will have to watch it but honestly don’t know what the hell went on between Ocon and Perez at Force India too. Surely the team should have had a word pre-race to ensure this didn’t happen again and cost them decent points which it did. Maybe that seals Ocon’s fate with the Lance Stroll getting his seat thanks to his Daddy’s $’s buying the team too. Personally I’d take Ocon over Stroll any day but a bit like Pedro Diniz Stroll isn’t quite the basket case driver he’s being made out to be. Sitrokin on the other hand I’d not be too upset to see him out of F1, Danil Kyvat was light years better than him a lost a drive in 2017!
Six races left for me it’s Lewis Hamilton’s too lose and it’s all well and good Vettel saying if we win the next races we’ll beat him (Hamilton) but can you honestly see Seb and Ferrari doing this? Personally Lewis deserves this title and regardless of his media persona and off track activities on the track he’s knuckled down this year, not got (much) too snotty when things don’t go well from him and pulled results out the bag he shouldn’t have done. Still a DNF, a scruffy race, bad reliability or Vettel suddenly becomes relentless and goes on a winning streak who knows.
