I should imagine neither Alonso nor Vandoorne will be sorry to part company with McLaren. They made a mistake in getting rid of Adrian Whitmarsh. The car has been absolute rubbish for a number of years now.

They had the cheek to blame Honda. Doesn't look like it was all down to them does it.

Fully agree Gene McLaren have totally lost there way since Newey and to a lesser extent Whitmarsh left/got forced out over the last decade or so. I reckon Red Bull at best would be at Haas/Toro Rosso/Renault or even McLaren level if it wasn’t for Newey’s skills and experience in dragging it as near as possible to the Merc’s and Ferrari’s imagine Merc or Ferrari's position right now with him on board!
Speaking of Ferrari’s former chairman Luca di Montezemolo has strongly criticised the fans who booed Lewis Hamilton on Sunday. Good on Luca for doing this show’s inspite of his ties and past connections with Ferrari. Also seems he's got some interesting insight's into Ferrari past v's present too.

So did Raikkonen's loss at the Italian GP seal his 'retirement' date as claimed in the news ? He can certainly still drive to a high standard. It would be nice if the rumours about Sauber's Charles Leclerc going to Ferrari were announced as true or not. It's the delay with communication that drives fans crazy.

It would be nice if the rumours about Sauber's Charles Leclerc going to Ferrari were announced as true or not. It's the delay with communication that drives fans crazy. The speculation’s over as it’s now announced Charles Leclerc’s been promoted to Ferrari for 2019 with Kimi Raikkonen going the opposite way back to where he began his F1 career at Sauber. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/45477134Can see the positives and negatives of this move but if I had the decision considering how he’s been driving this year I’d have kept Kimi at Ferrari for one last season. Also Leclerc may be promoted to the Ferrari seat too soon and suffer the second season syndrome where he doesn’t perform as well as he has this season and some of his recent performances have not quite been as good as they were early mid-season. Also what do Ferrari do if the opposite happens and he starts challenging Vettel as Kimi wouldn’t really be an issue in that way. A part of me thinks Kimi’s good performance at Monza which perhaps he drove for himself rather than the team/Vettel sealed his fate here but he can hold his head high with what he’s achieved and brought to the Prancing Horse with his two stints over the years. Forza Kimi!

Kimi is a fantastic driver and is still performing well. Leclerc will have to go some to match him.

Kimi is a fantastic driver and is still performing well. Leclerc will have to go some to match him. Fully agree with you Del and I think Ferrari have made a bit of a mistake not keeping Kimi on for one more year as Leclerc's recent performances although decent haven't (quite) been as good they were in the April-June phase of this season. As others have observed Kimi's performances for Ferrari this year have seen him drive as good as he's ever done and like Valteri Bottas he's just been unlucky to not get a win this year - especially at Monza.
That said as overall package he's not quite up there with Vettel and one of Kimi's Achilles heel's has been his tendency to fade and switch off in races where he goes backwards rather than forwards compared to his team-mate.
Don't get me wrong Leclerc is a hot property and can understand why Ferrari want to promote him just that I think it's a season too soon for him and reckon he'd be better off either having another season with Sauber or like Massa/Alonso etc. maybe having a testing role with Ferrari in 2019 before stepping up to the race seat in 2020.
Sauber mind will definitely benefit from Kimi's experience next season if only they'd consider Ocon instead of Ericsson they'd be very strong for next season with that line-up. Regardless of the rights/wrongs of these B-Team's they've come on leaps and bounds compared to their basket-case status they had in 2015-17.
