Did the fuel button switch on the second tank? It switched the supply from one tank to the other, there's no connecting pipe between the two tanks ,

[/pedantic] Cheap Halfords modern plates on classics is a real pet hate of mine - the correct styles for all classics are easily available and not all of the makers ask for copies of the V5 when you order a set of plates.... Grrrr!!! Villain

That XJ looks wrong on a W registration even though it’s correct due to it being registered late.

The Saint I agree but it was quite common for old models to hang around for well over a year once the new one had appeared. For instance, when the facelifted Mk2 Mini range was launched in October '67 a large number of Mk1s (including the Cooper and Cooper S) hung around dealerships until long after the G reg' appeared in August '68, they were sold off ay bargain prices to clear the dealer's stocks. The same thing happened when the Mk2s were replaced by the Mk3s in October '69! Villain
