It looks like it needs a bit of work doing, as The Saint said, the front door needs sorting but I noticed there's also a patch of the tin worm below the nearside headlights.
Still, not too bad a price despite my missus just jumping to the wrong conclusion: "Stop it, we don't need any more cars!"
So I placated her with "Don't worry, if I had a couple of thousand like that I'd buy a 1979/80 Suzuki GS1000"

Good price that. The front doors do look an iffy fit and as you guys say weird why there is no interior shots ? If it was far to travel it would put many off viewing it. They always look worse in the flesh anyway.

Leaves you fuming doesn't it, considering the time involved in going out viewing motors.

Having never bought a classic car before I wondered if its advisable that you take someone who knows the model you are thinking of buying? or maybe go through say the Rover P6 club for help if I were to indulge in P6 waftiness ? The Reason I ask is the car might look ok to buy to the untrained with a few minor niggles that those in the know can maybe see as a very expensive or most likely difficult fix because of part availability.

No just thinking it through really, and its always good to get advice from those who have dabbled in classic cars. I am a bit worried that if i buy one it could turn into a money pit thats always off the road. That situation must occur ?

It doesn't always happen Del Boy, you just need to use some common sense. The old saying 'never buy the first one you see' is often true but on the other hand if you can weed out the non starters early on you don't need to schlep round half the country looking at mis-discribed rubbish, wasting time, money and fuel. I went to look at this Series 2 XJ6 last December before I bought the one I now have, at the time it was with a different dealer in Cambridgeshire and needed a fair bit of work. It's hard to tell what bodywork has been done since I saw it but it certainly needed sorting out in a few areas, notably below the side / indicator light clusters, a typical XJ6 rot spot, and some of the chrome was a lot worse that that on my car (which isn't perfect).... 1976 JAGUAR XJ6 Series ll 3.4 Automatic LWB SaloonThe price has gone up by £5k since I looked at it! It does come with a large history file though which includes photocopies of previous owners' logbooks. At nearly £11k it ought to be top notch for a Series 2 Long Wheelbase, I know 3.4s are quite rare but that's only because most people favoured the 4.2 which usually had a leather interior rather than the velour in the 3.4.

Good post Villain, cheers. Looked at the 3.4 and its not for me squire. The Velour just don't look right in a Jag. I wouldn't look at that one due to the combination of engine, colour and trim. They all make it a no for me, then there's the price. I would rather buy one of these for that dough Jaguar XJR
