I'm sure all of us that watched the first series have been waiting for the return of Philip Glenister and Ant Anstead for a second series of For The Love of Cars?
The wait is almost over!
The second series starts on the 19th April at 8:00pm on Channel 4.
I'm not sure on which cars are being restored but maybe one clue lies in Philip's twitter feed where he thanks Drew Pritchard of Salvage Hunters for the use of Drew's Beetle...

Here's the trailer for the new series and it starts on this Sunday 19th with the Aston Martin DBS:
The cars due for restoration are as follows: Aston Martin DBS
Ford Transit Mk1
Saab 96
Rover SD1 Police Car
Fiat 500
VW Beetle
VW Golf GTi Mk1
Odd thing to me is that there looks to be an Aston DB2 and a Daimler Dart is in the video clip too.
Must say though that I'm really looking forward to this.

There's certainly no better car to start off with, I recommend it wholeheartedly.
It will be good to see my old Aston in the programme too, I wonder how Danny Wilde's Ferrari has fared over the years? Anyone know if it still turns a wheel?

I saw the repeat of episode one yesterday, I thought they did a great job with the Aston Martin DBS. Episode two tonight was the ex-Grampian Police Rover SD1 Vitesse, my only gripe is they padded out the episode with looking at other classic police cars, visits to the Ace Cafe, etc, whilst interesting in themselves, I would rather see more about the restoration of the SD1. The SD1 did look great after the restoration though! Next week is the Golf GTI. I am really looking forward to the Ford Transit Mk1. The Saint

I finally caught up with episode one on Saturday and then episode two later last night.
The Aston was nothing short of stunning, the colour was perfect though I admit I was unsure at first about the colour of the seats. But the completed item was totally amazing. It was good to see some of the new aluminium being patched in but I do wonder where the bonnet came from. It wasn't with the car in the barn and it is not something that would be readily available.
I was a bit disappointed about the Rozzer Rover; being a one-off I'd have thought it would have realised a higher final figure but good to see it going back to the Grampian museum. Like The Saint I would have liked to have seen more of the resto but could have done without the hospital dash.
It is still good to see the Life On Mars Cortina each week too.

Sam. I agree. The Aston Martin episode paid almost no attention to the 6,000 hours of work that went into the restoration. I'm not really interested in how the pistons were cleaned, or how the brakes were bled, but a little bit of drama must have happened at some point when the car was on the ramp. Also, 6,000 hours of work must have been a big chunk of the overall cost, but it was not included when they were working out the "profit" from auction. The hospital dash was complete filler in the Rover SDI episode. These workshop guys put a lot of effort into the restoration, and again it was not covered. I do like the show however, and it fills the vacuum that Top Gear left when that show was cancelled.

I've just managed to watch this week's show tonight and it seems they're doing a variation on the Car S.O.S theme in that they take someone's project car, do it up, and instead of giving it back at the end they flog it and give the previous owner the money from the sale.
However, in saying that, this week's Golf GTI was taken from the owner who had terminal cancer, done up for auction, and was bought by the owner's father-in-law who gave it straight back to him! What a nice gesture!
Again there was too much filler with Phil and Ant driving around the M25, time that could have been used to show some of the repairs and horror stories encountered, but the end result was a good running replica of the original mk1 rally car.

I've now watched the first two episodes. The Aston Martin in ep 1 was superb. The red interior wouldn't have been my choice in an olive green car but even so it looked good. I would have liked to have seen more of the graft that went into getting it back to that standard though.
Even more so in ep 2 with the Police Rover. Very little attention given to the graft that went into it, concentrating on a pointless dash with real coppers across the smoke.
I still find the program very entertaining though and hope to watch ep 3 tonight.

This is a great series but this run has been superb: Audi Quattro,MK1 Golf & Saab 96, all favourites of mine. Great to see Erik "on the roof" Karlsson too I agree with some of the comments that there is sometimes a little too much faff and not enough time spent on the actual restoration. Still, great all the same.
