Anyone else remember him? He was quite big for a short time at the end of the 70s/beginning of the 80s, about 79 to 81 ish. He was an American comic who turned up once as a guest on the Des O Connor show and seemed to make enough of an impression to be given his own show by BBC2 shortly afterwards.
He played it as a kind of sketch show as a kind of fictionalised version of himself, living in a flat in London with Gabrielle Drake playing his wife. Sometimes he would end up talking to the audience.
I watched it occasionally, he was sort of OK but not great, and I have not seen or heard of him for years.

Yes, I remember him, watched some yt clips recently, 'wry observations on life' as the BBC announcer describes the show, like a less offensive Dave Allen. He also reminds me of Paul Hogan. One of the comments on yt mentions seeing him perform on a cruise ship this year so still working it seems.
It says something about the age we live in that this kind of gently satirical humour is a thing of the past. A show like 'Shelley' wouldn't be made today, everything has to be foul mouthed or sticking the knife in. You look at 80s shows & it may as well be 100 years ago.

Yes I remember Kelly, and his BBC2 show. I remember him touring the UK as he made an appearance at the Victoria Hall, Stoke on Trent. According to my Sis, he was very funny and the venue was sold out, this would be circa 1981. I seem to recall his show was sketch based with a stand up routine? And wasn't he Canadian too? :D

I remember watching his BBC2 show in '81, it was very much along the lines of 'Shelley' as mentioned by Arthur above. In fact both shows are fondly remembered and definitely of their time. If they were repeated on mainstream TV today they'd be completely overlooked and deemed old hat, but I think they're still far, far better than most of the hipster / ironic / so called cool comedies that are shown now.
