Watched one myself last night, Billy Hamon (Barry Smith in Big Spender) was in it as a Cross dresser!

He certainly looked better in a dress than Warren Mitchell didn't he?

Tonight's Armchair Theatre play is 'Detective Waiting' from 1971 written by Ian Kennedy Martin & starring Richard Beckinsale & Bryan Pringle who plays a character called 'Arthur' I saw it a while back & found it a bit boring to be honest, the play last week by the same director was painful, one of the dullest pieces of tv I can remember.

Ah, AP you obviously haven’t seen an episode of Big Brother. I am sure the only 'Big Brother' that Arthur is interested in is The Sweeney episode of the same name! The Saint

I watched Detective waiting, and I thought it was poor. Worth watching to see Richard Beckinsale in a rare straight part however. A poor story, no smart dialogue and the plot was lumpen. I don’t think it worked as a character piece, such as Public Eye. Luckily Billy Liar was on afterwards which I hadn’t seen for ages- a rare treat.

I've got through a couple more Van Der Valk episodes yesterday and today, it's only the 1977 series I'm bothering with as it's the only one I remember. There are plenty of familiar faces turning up in them, Karl Howman, Don Henderson, and Geoffrey Palmer were in today's episode and Pam St Clement from Eastenders was in yesterdays.
I am quite enjoying them, but as much as anything it's nostalgia, reminders of watching them first time round.

I finally managed to catch a couple of "Van Der Valk" episodes last week. In the past I had only seen bits and pieces - I was quite amazed on how they stood up. The quality wasn't that bad either.
Has anyone caught the repeats of "Special Branch" on Forces TV? I caught a couple of episodes from the 1973/4 series - sadly - whatever versions they were showing looked like they had been dragged out of a skip. Far different from the DVD releases.

I caught some SB a couple of months ago, interesting but you could see how compared with Sweeney that hadn't quite got the mix right, it lacks the style of Sweeney, just watch the first few minutes of Ringer as the first main episode to see that.
