At first glance, I "thought" it was Garfield Morgan - though, what's he wearing - a camera Test Chart?
Who was in Power in '76 - was it Labour / James Callaghan?

Yes, Labour were in power from 74 to 79, initially Harold Wilson, who resigned in about April 76 and was replaced by James Callaghan.

In tonight's Van Der Valk I heard a phrase I've never come across before- 'w***er's doom'

Good grief! What on earth was she droning on about? Not a clip that makes me want to watch a whole episode!

I've just watched a Van Der Valk episode on you tube, episode 10 from the 1977 series. It wasn't bad, I did, very vaguely remember bits of it. Van Der Valk was kidnapped to prevent him from giving evidence. His wife got involved in the search and appeared to do a better job than the other members of the squad! While he was captive he turned one of the two villains against the other one. A Sweeney face in it too, Helen Keating. I liked the location filming and would guess it was filmed in early 1977,it looked a bit cold. Had to follow up with an autumn 77 run on my music Playlist

Not sure what dates Sweeney! was shot, August 76 is the date of the Downing Street appearance, it could well be that they went during shooting. Are John & Dennis wearing the clobber they wore in Sweeney! I'm sure someone will check.
Possibly shooting had finished as you'd think David Wickes wouldn't want to be getting involved in the Van Der Valk business whilst busy directing. My guess is they wouldn't take time off filming to present the petition.

Sweeney! was filmed in April '76 so it must be one of the S3 episodes I would guess. The second batch of these were in production from May until August.

I'm starting to get a bit into Van Der Valk and watched another one today from the 1977 series. Episode 5, man of iron, which had another Sweeney face in it, the occasional Haskins stand in, Maynon, I think he was called. Again, I didn't think it was a bad episode, I quite like his boss, Samson, played by Nigel Stock.
