I remember seeing a couple of Episodes in 1988 and remember from what I saw enjoying it apart from the talking into the camera bit at the start of each episode.
I always remember Eric with a pair of Hifi speakers strapped to his chest blasting out some Def Leppard ( not sure which episode)and Who can forget Lady Jane Felsham ? And Of course there is our old friend Max Deller too.
I've only ever caught the odd episode here and there over the years but now I've started watching series one. I managed to pick up the S1 box set from a car show the other week for 2 quid. I think the first series was aired in 86.
I'm quite enjoying it when I get time to watch an episode. Up to episode 3 now lol.
Any other Lovejoy fans out there ?

It wasn't bad. From memory there was quite a long gap between the first and second series. Also, it was another series which ended up jumping the shark.

We used to watch Lovejoy from time to time. It wasn't one of the 'must see' programs of the day but was just easy-going viewing while sat down with a TV-dinner and a long drink.
Like Brown Cortina I didn't like the talking to the camera parts with the other characters seemingly oblivious to the narration, but the characters were okay even if some of the storylines could be more corny than a packet of Kelloggs.
I've always regarded Ian McShane highly though and it was good to see him shake off the Lovejoy character with successive parts such as Teddy Bass in Sexy Beast.
Sam.

Bit of an acquired taste maybe Lovejoy, the breaking of the fourth wall as it's called in the biz worked for 'Alfie' but I'm not sure it works well on tv. The Eric Catchpole character always struck me as a weak link, he's a bit nondescript from what I remember. I've never really taken to these shows that have a character with a day job who does sleuthing on the side- Shoestring, Pie In The Sky, etc. as realism tends to go out of the window & you end up with a show that is...and I hate this word...'quirky'. I'd rather watch Hollyoaks than 'Jonathan Creek' for example

You're quite right there Sam, Ian Mcshane was slightly different in the Teddy Bass role. Sexy Beast, Another good film I enjoy to watch and I also think Ben Kingsley played the part of Don Logan well too.

Lovejoy isn't really something I like or hate just a bit indifferent to it. Alright background watching maybe.

... I also think Ben Kingsley played the part of Don Logan well too. Ben Kingsley was brilliant as Don Logan, truly menacing. I still find myself quoting him from time to time. Sam.
