Can't find any reference to Barry's walls of jericho theory. I expect he got it out of a magazine in the chiropodists.

ITV's new 'destined to run for one series only' gameshow 'Small Fortune', in which contestants have to perform tasks on miniature sets like attempting to flick a small piece of cardboard into a small basket. Absolute pony.

Absolute pony. Totally agree Arthur, I did not watch it - the trailer was bad enough! What’s that noise? Oh, it’s ITV scraping the bottom of the barrel! The Saint

A general moan now about the way that these reality TV crap fests are manipulated. I don't really watch the latest ITV effort, Dancing on Ice, but it's sometimes on in the background so I get little glimpses of it and this fat bird from Essex is on it, who has no discernable talent, apart from being mouthy. She is absolutely hopeless at skating but because she argues with the judges, she keeps getting votes in, and while people who are better at it go out.
On Strictly Come dancing a year or two ago, Ann Widdecombe was on and, similarly, she was useless but was kept in for a while to create controversy, Jedward were another example. All of them seem to me to be rigged.
With the rubbish that's on TV now, is it any wonder that I need to come to 43 for a bit of quality?

This thread is just one of the many reasons I love this forum.... there's an entire thread just dedicated to ranting about TV.
The word "reality" used in TV context makes be shudder - it's just a nice way of saying "Cheap and Shit TV"; they can sell the advertising space, sponsorship space, make a killing from the phone to vote system - and get some out of work so called "Celeb" who'd do anything on TV just for the additional exposure for a "Z list" fee.
Producers will always pick the "controversial" Celeb; the "Marmite" ones - with a big mouth and sob story - and only known about about 30% of the watching audience - as they are likely to create headlines and get everyone talking about it. Though with stuff like "Strictly" - I get the impression that the Producers "know" who they want to win the series by episode 1- and the audience is manipulated by the Judges views, and the way they are portrayed on screen to sway how the viewer votes.
I have 2 sons, one is 14, and another is 9 - BOTH of them are huge fans of the "Sweeney", "Professionals" "Minder", "Ashes to Ashes" "Life on Mars", "Avengers" - and basically most of ITV3 and ITV4's offerings. That isn't down to me - it's the quality of the programme itself.

I couldn't agree more with the last two rants. Can this Essex thing stay on two feet for more than 5 minutes? Didn't she escalate in fame when she fell through a stage a while back too?
I've got 3 kids too Sparky and each of them love The Sweeney, Minder, Auf Pet, Life On Mars, Ashes to Ashes etc. They think it's pure quality and who can argue with that?

I forgot "Auf Pet" (slap wrist!) - on a trip to Rufford Abbey a few years back; they were more concerned about going to see Thornley Manor, which wasn't that too far our of the way... On our last expedition to London, my eldest insisted he had to walk down Colet Gardens and have a photo outside Colet Court. I think we ended up sat outside the Latimer Pub with a drink.. shame it wasn't the Red Cow.
I wasn't aware that the Essex thing had fallen through a stage. My youngest says she looks like "Miss Piggy" - that I think was insulting (To Jim Henson/Frank Oz and Miss Piggy).
Though she'll keep getting through - keeps the show in the headlines.
Doesn't this kind of crap always pop up in the papers during "X Factor" - constant headlines about backstage spats between Judges, Presenters and Contestants?
Because they are talentless - they have to find other ways to grab the headlines....

This manipulation of reality is disturbing as it is absolutely not confined to 'reality' tv, it's very much a part of how the media ( including social media ) distorts facts & presents an often dishonest picture of how the World actually is & how people are. Today's example is this Liam Neeson business, he talked in confidence to a journalist about something very personal & dark which he admits to being ashamed of, she decides to leak his highly sensitive words to the wider World which are then taken out of context, the predictable outrage ensues on social media, then the shit stirring machinery of the mass media runs with it & it becomes headline news.
To watch Piers Morgan, a man who deliberately seeks out public figures to put in the stocks like a pig hunts truffles & who defends his friend Donald Trump whenever he makes controversial comments ( which is more or less every week ), damning Neeson, gloating & wallowing over what he said whilst at the same time saying 'I hope it doesn't, but this will probably destroy his career' was enough to make you throw up your breakfast.
