Donnington won the contract for the British Grand Prix from 2010, but blew it. They couldn't fund the work to upgrade the circuit and facilities. Because Silverstone had lost the race, they made changes to the circuit to set it up for Moto GP, which they had won from Donnington. Then, Silverstone got the F1 contract back again on a long term deal.
Brands Hatch is no where near up to standard to host an F1 grand Prix.
I agree with your list of F1 circuits, Del, except for Monaco. No good races ever happen there. You missed Austin from the list, which is the only modern race track that I like.

Yes Windy Monaco rarely has a good race. It needs to rain for it to be a good race there but I like it as it's an old race and is challenging for the barriers and tightness and it looks fantastic.
On to Austria today. Many teams claimed that from here they would have some upgrades notably Mclaren Honda. Lets see if the field changes.

McLaren Honda's upgrade wasn't much of a success That circuit in Austria is a bit Mickey Mouse, being only 1 min 15 secs long. An ok race with moments, like the first lap crash, and Massa getting a podium finish. Better than Canada and the first 70 laps of Monaco.

McLaren Honda's upgrade wasn't much of a success I think most of those upgrades were swept up by the marshals. Absolutely dire performance from McLaren again. Nice to see Massa on the podium thanks to the Ferrari cock up in the pits with Vettel. Hamilton didn't seem himself at all the whole weekend. Very distant.
No, not a fan of this track at all. Roll on Silverstone.
Gene.

It wasn't a great race and i think its fundamentally to do with tyre management. Hopefully they sort this situation for next season. Silverstone needs to be a good race for F1's sake.

It's a number of things.
Renault having an unreliable engine Honda having an unreliable power train system Williams can't get the strategy right Ferrari can't get the aerodynamics right Mercedes dominance The need for drivers to lift and coast to save tyres and fuel.
These are all things that prevent great racing. However, I don't think it's a bad as it got in 2004, which has to be the most boring year ever in F1 history.

Agree with a few things there Windy. 2004 was cack. If I remember right, Schumacher won 12 of the first 13 races or thereabouts.
Mercedes dominance is still a major factor this year. They appear to be allowing their rivals to get close in practice, yet when it matters most (Q3) they can turn things up another notch. Even Vettel alluded to this in the press conference post qualifying.
Fuel Saving and tyre saving is my biggest gripe. We are not seeing these drivers performing anywhere near the limit in the race which is extremely poor for the fans.

Good points lads and yes you're right. Interesting to hear Niki Lauda's comments this weekend. The pick of them being that F1 has been regulated too much over the years and it's become too easy.

Talking about comments from the weekend, they were discussing the Alonso / Raikkonen collision post race on Sky F1. The discussion was the camera angles didn't make it very clear exactly what happened. Ted said there was no recording available from Alonso's car, because it was not recording. Brundle replies: 'Nothing works on that car at the moment, does it, not even the onboard camera' !
