It seems rather appropriate to announce the itinerary for the forthcoming Auf Wiedersehen Pet Meet on what would have been Pat Roach's 80th Birthday. So I'd like to dedicate this Meet to Pat.
The 4:3tv 005 - Auf Wiedersehen Pet Meet Itinerary. As most of us if not all will be descending on Bingham during Saturday 14th October, I thought it would make perfect sense to have a Pre Meet Mini-Meet on the Saturday evening. This will involve just a short 10 minute drive and a short walk around a very small village.... Saturday:All members to meet in the Hotel at 5.30pmFrom here we can use the cars to travel 10 minutes to the village of Redmile. Upon arrival in Redmile (there is ample street parking) we can have a short tour of all the locations used in the village. - Sunny View Guest House
- Barry's Brass Rubbing Church EXTERIOR ONLY
- The Barley Mow
At this point in time, The Barley Mow is up for auction so it is possible that we may not be able to go in sadly. However, please remember that the interior scenes were filmed in a studio although it is uncannily similar inside. If we are lucky though, it will be open and we will be able to go in for a pint & a pie. If The Barley Mow is not open to the public, we will return to Bingham to park the cars and spend the evening there. Sunday:All members to meet at 9am in the hotel ready for the off.We will start off with a short walk around Bingham to see the following locations.
- The Gamekeeper Cafe
- Howard Radcliff's Office
Returning to the hotel and getting in the cars for a 9.30am departure. We will then cover the following locations in order.
This will involve parking in a layby and leaving the cars for up to 1 hour. Though I've visited Thornely Manor numerous times, the current owner is less obliging and will not permit people driving right up to the house. We will be taking a walk along a public right of way - the condition of which will be dictated by weather at that time - so be prepared to take a change of footware. I have parked in this layby a few times and left my car without any problems. Returning to the cars, we continue the drive to....
- Sir James' House
- The Cross Keys (Gatehouse only)
We then drive to our Sunday lunch break at...
- Harry's Country & Western Boozer
I've allowed a comfortable 90 minutes here before returning to the cars.
We then drive just around the corner and again park up for a short village walk to take in....
- The Tramp's Bus Stop
- Dennis' Little Office
- Shop where Nev bumps in to Sir James
- Sgt Ives House
- The "Why are you annoying my dog" house
- Dennis pulls up in the camper by the lads who are out walking to tell them about Spain
- Mrs Chatterley's House (Driveway only)
We then return to the cars for a decent drive East to see.... - The Bel & Dragon (allowing 30 mins for a quick jar if open)
- Hazel's Flat
- Rod's School
- Barry's House
Back to the cars for a drive to our final and fitting location...
The drive section of the Meet will cover a slightly higher mileage to what we did in Newcastle. Don't worry though... we should find driving easy again when compared to London based Meets. I anticipate that we will finish at the final location for around 5.15-5.30pm. Those travelling back to the hotel will have a 30 minute drive so should be back there by 6pm for a wash and brush up - ready to hit the town one last time.
Given the mileage we will be covering, it will be necessary for all passengers in cars to help their driver with something towards fuel costs. Personally, I think £10 per person is relatively fair.
Any questions regarding any aspect of the itinerary - especially drivers, don't hesitate to ask me. I'll help all I can. As you can see, it is more important than ever before that we can rely on you as drivers to turn up for this event. It would leave everyone in a total mess if a driver failed to show.
I hope everyone likes the look of it.
Gene.

A superb itinerary Gene. Many thanks for all of the planning that has gone into it. I think £10 for each passenger to give their driver for the day is good value Steed

I wouldn't change a thing with this itinerary, Gene. Thanks for working all that out.
Looking forward and hoping to see the Barley Mow open, obviously Thornley Manor Is a biggy too. Nicely spaced out selection of watering and de-watering holes.

The Itinerary looks fabulous Gene. I particularly like the idea of it all kicking off on Saturday evening with some location spotting. Many thanks for sorting out what looks to be an exciting weekend. Lots of locations on the agenda as well. Looking forward to meeting everyone again as well.

Perhaps there'll be a few strapping country wenches in coloured frocks knocking about while you're drinking up thy cider and listening to Adge Cutler & The Worzels and the sounds of saxophones echoing through the rafters. Etc etc. Gene Genie.
