Watched another episode - the one with the Jazz funeral - which was really great
One thing that puzzles me though, why is there the beef with the Maceys? This is never explained. And why do they do such ridiculous things? None of it rings true. It seems the entire neighbourhood is pro-Billy Fox except them.
Still there's a fight in a pub between the Fox boys and the Maceys which is a lot of fun - which might be all the reason Trevor Preston needed to put in some ill defined hatred.

I've now finished watching all of Fox
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed to this thread. It gave me the impetus to buy a copy of the Network DVD
I was a little unsure about it at first but I soon became completely immersed in the Fox family - and their various ups and downs
Now, having reached the end of the series, I feel a little sad this its over. It's quite emotional in parts.
It's a shame Euston films and/or Trevor Preston felt it wasn't worthy of a second series. I thought there was plenty of mileage left in it.
Perhaps it wasn't a big ratings hit? Anyone know?
Either way, thanks again. Well worth getting your mitts on this one (and of course Preston's Out also)
One othter thing - what a cast!
Derrick O'Connor and Elizabeth Spriggs (above) are superb - but then they all. Really good casting and performances.

Just reflecting more on Derrick O'Connor - he really was superb in Fox
Probably the best cast member
His face seems really familiar and yet I can't actually remember what else I might have seen him in
What are your favourite Derrick O'Connor performances?

Just in case you can catch it Fox seems to be being repeated on London Live at the moment in the London area this might also be going out on similar local Freeview channels too. Noticed it was on from episode 2 so may be one to catch if you don't fancy firing up the DVD's.

Fully agree LE in fact liked most things and the performances Derrick has been in too. Have to go with the scene in his club when he faces off with the two corrupt coppers and then charges them £50 for the brandies. Brilliantly done.

Highest viewing figures for 'Fox', Lord E, were 9.4 million for ep.3, lowest was 5.7 million for ep.9.
These figures are from the book 'Made For TV Euston Films Ltd', which mentions that ep.9 was delayed until 10.40pm ( usual start time was 9pm ) due to coverage of the Iranian Embassy Siege. None of the 13 episodes made the top twenty.
Top shows for the period that 'Fox' was originally broadcast ( March to June 1980 ) were-
1) All Creatures Great And Small ( 17.7m ) 2) Jim'll Fix It ( 17.3m )
3) Dallas ( 17m )
4) This Is Your Life/Little & Large Show 5) Coronation St 6) Play Your Cards Right 7) Crossroads ( 15.2m )
8) Armchair Thriller 9) Potter ( Arthur Lowe sitcom )
10) Wonder Woman 11) Hart To Hart 12) The Kenny Everett Video Show ( 13.5m )
I agree, Derrick O'Connor is the stand-out, usually very believable in whatever role he's cast in, he was as good in 'Out' as John Pavey. A few of the Fox cast were not Londoners & struggle a bit with the accent, particularly Bernard Hill. For me Ray Fox is the most compelling character, I felt sorry for him in the final episode where he's looking at a prison sentence, iirc O'Connor breaks down in tears. He plays the part of the ex con nightclub owner with a hatred for the bent police he deals with so well & there's a doomed inevitability about his return to prison.
Other O'Connor performances I like-
'Bloody Kids' ( 1979 made for tv film in which he plays a copper )
'Psy Warriors' ( Alan Clarke Play For Today) 'Comedians' ( Trevor Griffiths Play For Today ) The Professionals ep. 'You'll Be Alright' Hazell ep. 'Hazell Pays A Debt' Tales Out Of School ep. 'Flying Into The Wind'
Also in 'Night Out' & 'Sweeney 2' of course.
Just a solid, no nonsense actor who could be relied upon to give a part credibility.

For those in the London area it seems London Live are repeating Fox again as it's on at 9pm tonight with a repeat early hours on Sunday/Monday morning. Sadly it will have approx 5 mins chopped out of it unlike the stuff TPTV show which is pretty much uncut. Still worth watching mind you.
