ADMIN NOTE: This and the following posts have been split from the Get Carter Location Report thread as I think the cars featured in this film are worthy of a thread of their own.
It was on TCM channel last night and I just had to watch it again, it is a fantastic film. I just love the wonderful locations and the photography, I find that era (late 60s/early 70s) very interesting there was a kind of mixture of old, Victorian stuff and modern, brutalist concrete architecture which I thought looked great together as a contrast and it gave a really gritty feel to the locations generally.
I love the tatty looking cafes and pubs, reminiscent of the places I used to go to in Manchester when I started work in the late 70s. I would have been 10 in the summer of 70 when the film was made and, although its not really that long ago it does seem like another era altogether, one which I miss.
Another point, the funeral cars looked like 1930s Rollses, and there were still some of those used for the carriage trade at that time

They were indeed Rolls-Royce cars Cartman. Quite a few of them at the Crematorium. All of them were owned by local firm Howe's of Newcastle.
254ELR: 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith. This was still on the road up until July 2014!
RD753: 1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30. Still on the road up until July 2013!
CWS107: 1938 Rolls-Royce 25/30. Lasted only till 1974. The engine lives on though in another chassis.
EGH514: 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III. Last heard of in 1999 in the USA.
Gene.

Cheers Gene, the Mark 2 Cortina, YBB 371H, is showing as last taxed in 1978 so probably gone, although mine disappeared off the radar in 1982 and I had to get it put back on the DVLA database when I got it, so who knows?. The Sunbeam Alpine which got shunted into the dock by a Landrover, I have heard got fished out afterwards and I believe still exists

The Sunbeam Alpine which got shunted into the dock by a Landrover, I have heard got fished out afterwards and I believe still exists The Sunbeam Alpine... It was a MkV - not a MkIV as incorrectly reported elsewhere on the web. The giveaway is the absence of "SUNBEAM" lettering across the bonnet. It is possible 2 cars were used for filming. One for driving and one car that was modified so it would sink faster when shunted into the drink. The car that Gloria and Jack go to the car park in has 3 mudflaps on it (one missing from the nearside rear) but the car that is pushed into the water sometime later has no mudflaps on it. So, was it 2 cars or did they go to the trouble of removing the 3 before sinking it? Picture 1: Clearly showing mudflap on front nearside. Picture 2: Clearly showing no mudflap. Then there is a story about Jack's car. Anyone spot that 2 cars were used again? In this first shot, we see Jack following Eric & co to Kinnears gaff. Jack's Cortina is wearing YBB372H plates. Note also the position of tax disc right down in the bottom corner of the windscreen, and more significantly, a lack of front chrome bumper. Then a little later on, here is the 2nd car, wearing YBB371H plates. Note that it now has a bumper, the tax disc is slighty higher in the window too. and at the back of The Las Vegas. Gene.

Great spot about the cars there Gene. Not quite like the Pro's where they used ringers like UOO303T etc. when more than one car doubled as that one.

Never noticed that Gene. The fact that they were consecutively numbered means that they were possibly hire cars from the same fleet?
371 had damage to the bonnet lip and o/s/f wing, presumably from knocking the door off the Jag

It doesn't end there. 2 Jags were used too. In this first shot we see Con & Peter pull up in XLE33G wearing wire wheels and a big dent in the nearside front wing. Then in this later shot, we see Peter stood by the second Jag. This one has much better paintwork, no dent and most obviously, she's wearing pressed steel wheels. Then a little later, we are back to Jag No 1 on wire wheels, dent and obviously, no door. Gene.

A Mark 2 Jag on a G plate would not have been that common, as the Mark 2 was discontinued in 67, for about another 12-18 months they carried on, rebadged as the 240/340 (the 3.8 was discontinued) and had smaller bumpers, as a stop gap until the XJ6 came out in late 68

I'm certain that the G plate on the Jag was a fake as this was too late a plate for any MK2 by my reckoning.
