It's on my to watch list on you tube. Might try to squeeze (pun not intended!) tomorrow between Van Der Valk and a bit more 70s music

I reckon The Squeeze would have been perfect as a 3rd Sweeney movie. Put Regan in rather than Naboth, have his own ex-wife and daughter kidnapped, keep Edward Fox in as Kate's new husband, depict Regan as having a chronic alcohol problem (following on from his p***-up at the hotel and the final pub celebrations in Sweeney 2) and at the end, have Regan and Carter get involved in a major shootout at the end where they kill most of the gang and then Regan either dies or retires and decides to reunite with his family.
Also can't help but think that Freddie Starr's blue mac in The Squeeze was a nod to the same one worn by Carter in The Sweeney (they were both sidekicks).

Certainly could've worked as a Sweeney film, Leon Griffiths used John Thaw in his Play For Today 'Dinner At The Sporting Club'. Funnily enough the wardrobe person on The Squeeze is called Eddie Boyce, only a letter out!
The film was based on a novel called 'Whose Little Girl Are You?' by a Welsh writer called James Tucker writing under the name David Craig. Might be worth a read.
The UK quad poster below exploits the scene where Carol White is forced to strip.

Suppose that could've worked as an idea for a 3rd film Kenny.
Running with that I'd have kept Regan pretty much as he was in Sweeney!/Sweeney 2 rather than apply the alcoholic character/back story Naboth had to him and pretty much have R&C and The Squad on the trail of the gang perhaps in a death-race style storyline. Question is would this be too similar to what they did in Abduction? Only now I can see the similarities between that and The Squeeze.

I have to say (even though I have said it before!) that this film is just perfect...
It all ambles along very nicely indeed and there are some very nice touches here and there to keep the viewer involved (whether they be good touches or bad touches!!!).
What a great piece of film. We have to be thankful for these wonderful little documents of time!

I've been reading David Hemmings autobiography, he mentions The Squeeze & makes a claim about the inspiration for 'Minder'- 'one memorable aspect of the production was the minder who'd been hired because stuff kept getting nicked. I thought it wonderful the way this taciturn character dressed for his part, as if he was appearing in the movie. He would turn up every day in wide checked suits with iridescent ties and soend much of the time checking the condition of his fingernails. I thought I'd wind up the little gorilla a bit & told him that Linda Agran ( the producer ) was mad about him. So he started putting on even more snappier suits & ever more powerful aftershave. Leon Griffiths was rather captivated by him too and loved the minder situation and it was precisely from this character that he and Linda developed the popular tv series Minder.'

Interesting story Arthur I'm sure Alan Ford's 'hammer' character had a bit of influence in Minder and the like.
