It I a good film and I d like it, BUT I never thought it had a 60s feel to it. It was filmed on location in 78/79 and there are plenty of 70s cars in it, so I always felt is was contemporary to when it was being filmed and ad a nice late 70s atmosphere Agree totally. I was going to say it was sloppy on detail as you can see so much of contemporary England in the background. But I guess it dovetailed with the Mod revival, and I’d say it’s only a niggle as the spirit of the film is great.

The two main scooters can be seen , with other items, at the Quadrophenia exhibition LittleDean jail in Gloucestershire. Loads of other exhibitions there as well. I have visited the littledean jail mainly for the quadrophenia exhibition and it is very good. The Ace’s scooter is there and if I remember correctly it is the actual one from the film. I think the other one there is a replica of Jimmy’s Lambretta. I seem to remember there being an original seat off one one of the scooters used in the film, looking a bit sorry for itself. They have the film playing there too. I must go again as it’s been a long time since I was there last, 2011 I think.

I obviously wasn't around during the 60s but I agree that Quadrophenia, though a great film with a classic soundtrack, feels too contemporary. I think the familiar cast of 70s/80s faces is partly to do with it.
Another film made by The Who's production company, 'McVicar', doesn't capture the period it's supposed to be set in well either- the way people look, talk, etc. Might be wrong but I don't think the blue & yellow Adidas trx trainers McVicar wore were about in the 70s when John McVicar was banged up. Didn't jeans & trainers became habitual dress in the 80s rather than 70s?

Think the TRX's came out very late 70's they were quite a popular trainer in the early 1980's until the more Hip Hop inspired styles showed up in the late 1980's.
Yeah get what you mean about McVicar not quite capturing the period correctly. It all seems very 1980 when McVicar's activities took place in the late 60's unlike Quadraphenia which did look/feel right. Maybe this was deliberate maybe budgets etc. also maybe there was attempt by Tom Clegg to keep some of the look/feel of The Sweeney which wasn't that long ago and still popular.
As for the trainer/sports casual look was starting to come in around that time with the football crowd.

Interestingly not all the songs heard in the film are on the official Quadrophenia soundtrack album. I know the record "The Watusi" played whn Jimmy is being dragged out the dancehall isn't apparently, as a Mod expert DJ I know quite well has confirmed this. Anything he doesn't know about Mod culture isn't worth knowing!
Great film too although Phil Daniels is was in fact only 12 years younger than Michael Elphick was at the time, who was playing his Father!

I've just found out from an old work mate of mine that there was a 40th celebration of Quadrophenia at the Shepherds Bush Empire at the weekend. I don't know if any of you lads knew about it ? I don't recall it being mentioned on the forum.
Apparently a lot of the actors attended and read parts of the script out on stage during the event, which was hosted by Sky Arts.
I personally still haven't seen the film yet, but I'm going to definitely try to watch it now.
The work friend was lucky enough to win a competition to attend the event with his wife, with a night's stay at a hotel thrown in. From what I hear it was a great night. The show was recorded and will be shown on Sky Arts in September
Charles.

Thanks for that Charles, yeah I think I did see something come by a newsfeed but thought it was probably clashing with the Sweeney event, which I thought was typical! So many good things on at the moment and I might have some news of something else coming up.....

Great film too although Phil Daniels is was in fact only 12 years younger than Michael Elphick was at the time, who was playing his Father! I agree. The original soundtrack which has tracks from other artists has some very important Who tracks missing from it (Quadrophenia, Cut my hair, Is It in My head) There's also another album that was available called "The Who songs from Quadrophenia" which is basically the original soundtrack minus the other various artists. The original soundtrack from the film does have the excellent Hi Heel Sneekers by Cross Section on it which is heard at the start of the film just after Jimmy is buying products from Ferdy outside a club. The best soundtrack is the double LP, the only downside is it doesn't have Get out and stay out by the Who but that one was probably recorded for the film as the film is based on the original 1973 album.
