More Morse than Gene Hunt I know, but I've got a classical playlist in the Quattro that I sometimes listen to on late night motorway journeys (Pre 2020 or course)
Pachelbel - Canon in D Major Debussey - Clair De Lune Liszt - Consolation No 3 Mascagni - Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana Franz Liszt - Liebestraum Chopin - Nocturne No 1 in B Flat Minor Op 9 Beethoven - Romance for Violin No 2 in F Major
Gene.

No shame in loving classical music gents, not an expert myself but my late Dad was lover of Chopin, Mozart and Wagner, and often put it on, weekend afternoons, hats off to you!

I'm now going to fly in the face of fashion to show what I've been listening to today. Yes I like a range of music: 70s, 80s, even some 90s, rock, heavy metal, brit-pop (although I dislike that term), glam rock, new romantic, ska, the list goes on. But, on occasion there is a side of me that many aren't aware of and that's to listen to some easy going classical music. For me they usually occur when, despite when you look around and can see that the world can be a really beautiful place to live in, Mother Nature can sometimes be a real bitch and deal you a really shit hand. Although Annie and I are dealing with some issues these days my thoughts right now are with those that are dealing with some heavier shit. I don't expect all to appreciate it but I know that there are a few that will so my hand selected listening pleasure today has been: Frédéric Chopin - Spring WaltzFranz Schubert - SerenadeEdvard Grieg - Morning Mood (From Peer Gynt)Ludwig van Beethoven - SilencioFrédéric Chopin - Joie De Vivre
Johann Pachelbel - Canon in D Major: Apologies for it being a break from the norm but I'm sure there are one or two of you that will appreciate the quality of these pieces. Sam. Funny you say that Sam. I love anything from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Brit Pop, Rock, a bit of Metal etc, but also some classical pieces.
With me, it's the more familiar pieces - a lot of which seems to have been used at some point on the TV - either in adverts, or even as part of the Presentation & Promotional packages.
ATV used a lot of classical pieces during the intervals and junctions between their programmes. ATV were also responsible for the Networking of Schools Programmes on ITV - and as many of us will remember, a lot of the intervals & breaks between each programme would be covered by classical pieces with a couple of specific library pieces. All this changed when Central came along; though the classical pieces were still used with schools programmes fro years to come.
Also - during the breaks on schools programmes, they would often have a holding slide, with a caption telling you what the piece of music was. So - by the age of 10, generations of UK kids had been educated on the works of Beethoven, Brahms etc - even if they didn't realize it at the time.
I still hear pieces now and think "Blimey, I remember that" or "Wasn't that used on this" etc.

Sadly for me, and perhaps others - that era of TOTP has been tarnished by some over eccentric cigar chomping, shell suit wearing portable jewellery store who couldn't keep his hands to himself..... Just knowing he's lurking in the background somewhere makes me cringe.
That aside, an amazing era for music - some great bands and performances. It's hard to imagine this was over 50 years ago now.....
It's a shame so many episodes from the 60s to 1976 were wiped - there are so many great performances lost.
