Today's album of the day... Absolute perfection innit? Easy to run out of superlatives to describe the brilliance of Forever Changes
Another of those albums whose specialness went virtually unnoticed by the US music critics of the day and it was not a commercial success It fared better in the UK where it reached 24 in the album charts
BTW it was a similar story with Pet Sounds (which got to number 2 in the in UK album charts). Makes you proud to be British dunnit?
I tried really hard to love this when I was younger because it is quoted as being one of Barclay James Harvest’s favourite albums/influences in their early days but ... it basically just leaves me cold. Wow. Just goes to show eh?

I noticed a little while ago that, because at work my boss and I are both signed into the same google account for our google analytics to work for our website, the songs I play on YouTube on a Saturday while I’m working in the office on my own all come up on his YouTube account. Eek. Anyway, today he opened YouTube to look at something at he goes “Depeche Mode?” So I sidle up and explain, only for him to scroll through it all. He goes quiet so I get worried and say “you did say I could listen to music when I’m the only one here” and it turns out it wasn’t a displeased silence but one of concentration as he studied the list. He looks up and goes “you’ve actually got quite good taste” and then carries on with the day.

If he went through my playlists, he would probably not have heard of a fair bit of them, unless he's into largely forgotten stuff from the mid/late 70s

I've quite a few YouTube playlists, arranged in years. A small one from the 50s, then one for the 60s which is a bit bigger (I think the 60s are a bit hit and miss, the good stuff was very good, but there was a fair bit of mor, easy listening dross in the charts then) After this we get into the main event - the 70s! My first one is 70-74 which is classed as early 70s, following this there is one for each individual year of 75 to 1980. The lists for 78/9 are huge!
Following the greatest decade of all time, I have an 81-3 list, then one for late 80s/early 90s combined which were very slim pickings, late 90s/early 00s is a bit bigger, and my final one is 2005 to date

I did my old trick today of letting my music player choose a track at random and then I follow up with a series of tracks from the same artist / group.
Today the first random track on the Wurlitzer was from OMD so the playlist ran as follows:
Pandora's Box (Forever) Live and Die Secrets Sailing On The Seven Seas Messages Souvenir
and then rounding off with Walking On The Milky Way:
With a strange, surreal video that was filmed around Southend-On-Sea there is also a tenuous Sweeney (and Italian Job) connection in that the female vocalist is Hannah Clive, daughter of John Clive (John Frewin in Big Brother).
Sam.
