I've been dipping into the Italian loungecore stuff again just lately, this breezy piece of bossa nova just hits the right spot.... Villain News afternoon follows in 15 minutes after this trade test transmission

Like it Villain As for TTT's when did they disappear ? They just slipped away unnoticed Must of been annoying if you liked what they were playing as there was no way to find out what the track was. Here's a Trade Test Transmission from back in the day:

I know I've heard them all dozens of times, but you just can't get any better than 1978....
Chic Everybody Dance Bee Gees Night Fever Boomtown Rats Rat Trap Kate Bush The man with the child in his eyes Motors Airport Samantha Sang Emotion Patty Smith Group Because the night Suzy Quatro If you can't give me love Blondie Picture this Elvis Costello Radio radio Olivia Newton John A little more love
78-80 was just the absolute peak.
To keep in the 78/9 vibe I've also rewatched the GMP motorway patrol film from the winter of 79 in the snow on the M62 :-)

Here's a Trade Test Transmission from back in the day: They still do the Trade Test Transmissions - but very rarely. They call them "Engineering Tests" these days.
You can sometimes catch them overnight during engineering works.
At the last count we were on Test Card "W" - designed for Digital TV, Widescreen and to factor in the differences in picture on LCD screens. (Back lit ones especially). And - of course - the signal differences.
The daily Transmissions stopped in the mid 80s, when afternoon programming properly began on BBC1 (to compete with ITV), thus moving Childrens and Schools Programmes over to BBC2 - giving less time for the Test-Card.
Breaks on BBC1 were usually covered by Pages from CeeFax.

Over the last couple of days I have been immersed in... The Replacements – Don't You Know Who I Think I Was? (The Best Of) Anyone know them? A US group who started as hardcore punk and progressed into a more soulful, low-fi blues punk band
They still have a fanatical cult following in the US and are hugely influential
I'd never quite broken through with The Replacements. This is probably due to not having given them a proper chance. I have now listened enough to know that there is probably much to enjoy and they might even be a new favourite band Overall I think it’s a cracking compilation for the right mood. The quality is consistency high with plenty of variety and tonal shifts. After my first listen through, I had a few more listens on shuffle and was amazed at how exhilarating it was: one minute the sweet romantic pop of Kiss Me On The Bus, the next the punk thrills of Kids Don’t Follow. Splendid, really splendid. Having read about them, and as you may well already know, their reputation for self sabotage became legendary. They would pass out at gigs and play awful shows full of tuneless cover versions (one particularly bad performance was released as a bootleg titled The Sh*t Hits the Fans).
