I thought "McCartney II" with the likes of "Coming Up", "Waterfalls" & "Temporary Secretary" from 1980 was a very innovative album and saw him playing all of the instruments himself. I also thought "Tug Of War" (1982) and "Pipes Of Peace" (1983) were very decent. I bought Wings Over America when it came out in '76 or '77. Or Birdshit over Baltimore as my school called it. He was a Clash fan!

I would agree with that, McCartneys early stuff on his own with Wings was good, but he went off and became poor. I would add Wonderful Christmas time to the list of duds. I got to say even as a massive fan I don't think the Wings albums are classics of their time. Band On The Run possibly is the exception and the albums are very good, have a decent single on them here and there but as albums compared to other contemporary offerings they are somewhat overrated to me. I have the greatest hits release from 1980 and that does me regarding Wings. Got to say that is a fantastic record. I think Jet has aged well, Band On The Run I played so much that i don't really play it much anymore but my favourite Wings track is With a Little Luck. The McCartney album for me has one great track on it. The rest of it does nothing for me at all and is poor even for album tracks. I often feel it might of been rushed what with all the turmoil Paul was dealing with at the time. McCartney II, I agree with Steve, its a far better album. Many times over the years Paul gets I feel unfairly slagged for The Frog Song but it was a soundtrack project and fitted the subject matter perfectly. It was probably a mistake for Paul to be in the video and it would have benefited from not being released as a single but they were using Paul to push the film. Pipes Of Peace is a great record, Paul's best of the 80s and a worthy No. 1 Overall Paul didn't really hit the heights in the 80s. I'll be controversial here and say for the ex Beatles John had the best album in the 70s - Imagine, George had the best album in the 80s Cloud Nine but Paul consistently wrote the best singles. Where do you guys stand on this ?

Sam Yeah, they found some wacky baccy in his luggage Paul did nine days inside I think then they deported him. Wings split around this period and Paul and Denny Laine had a falling out around this time.

Where do you guys stand on this ? Seems a fair appraisal as far as I'm concerned Del although I think "Ram" & "Red Rose Speedway" are up there with his best. The first 5 tracks from "Ram" are fantastic and include his first US number 1 since The Beatles. I am a huge John Lennon fan but I would disagree about the albums, he had a few good singles including "Imagine", "Instant Karma", "Power To The People", "Merry Christmas, War Is Over" but his albums in the 70's I thought were poor overall and perhaps a little self indulgent with their political overtones.

Interesting Steve. Would you go Band On The Run for the best 70s album? How about the 80s? Double fantasy isn't a great album although it was great to see John Back before tragedy struck I remember my dad bought it and was constantly playing it. Always liked his track Maybe I’m Amazed. Its a fantastic single. Unfortunately the only thing i like on McCartney.

Always liked his track Maybe I’m Amazed. If you play 'Maybe I'm Amazed' backwards, you'll hear a recipe for a really ripping lentil soup
