You and Sam were in the Curry house - Sam thought he could hear Pulp the 90's pop group playing and said "Hang on that's Pulp!" You answered "It's not that bad is it?" The Cortina reversing quickly up the one way street and pulling an impressive 90 deg turn - very Sweeney! Oh god, the Pulp scene. Both my other half and myself have picked out that scene as stand out, but for different reasons. He said it's because it's subtle - we hear it before Sam does, or at least before he reacts. It gives me goosebumps, but because whilst Sam spends the series desperate to get back to the modern day, I spend my life wishing to be in the past, so ... it's almost like the modern day is spilling in through the radio. I'm not doing a very good job of explaining myself here, at all, but it gets me every time. Possibly because it's a song that I would have heard when I was very young ... I don't know but anyway, I'll stop wittering. Hmmm I preferred the reverse through the tunnel the second time around

I have great difficulty watching Gene and Sam undercover in the pub, without wanting to go for a beer afterwards. That episode is watched only at weekends :D

I love those scenes, too. And despite his derision, I think Gene was an awfully lot better at undercover than Sam in this instance . And the fantastic 'impression' of being drunk, of course ...

Just got S1E2 on. God. I could quote most of this episode as best scenes! But there are exchanges in Gene’s office just before Trent’s blag and the tapioca pudding incident (*cough* snigger *cough*) that’s just one after the other gold. This place is like Guantanamo Bay. Give over, it’s nothing like Spain. There’s £200 worth of drugs here. We plant them on him; watch them grow into a big flower of justice. Oi! Gary Cooper nearly come down then. You want to kick a ball about, do it in the corridor! Where I come from? Hyde, your old division you brain donor Well in Hyde we don’t usually keep acid and knocked off bling in our offices just so that we can get home earlier. Are they all like you in Hyde? Must be a bloody dangerous place. (Apologies for any errors - that was typed as it went along!) And then, dear god, then ... came the chilling moment when I discovered that ambulance drivers hadn’t always been medically trained I still remember turning right round to look at my parents, jaw on the floor.

Do you remember people? You used to be one. Not bad for you boss. E. I dunno. Sorry, was that like you saying the letter E and then you don’t know the rest or was that like you saying “ee, I dunno!” The latter is particularly poignant to me because my Grannie (sadly missed) was from Middlesbrough and everything was “eeee” this and “eeee” that. And Gene’s mimicking of a broken heating aid, a la Basil Fawlty.

S1E5 - undercover in the Trafford Arms. I love the scenes in the pub :)
But why I’m here - Sam’s speech about the future of football hooliganism. I get goosebumps every time. Whenever there’s more than just a throwaway comment regarding the future it tends to get to me, but this is a particularly moving one.
I think Sam’s emotion towards his parents and his childhood is portrayed very well indeed. I think we all feel a bit emotional/nostalgic for our childhoods through Sam. I
