Any fans of Red Dwarf will be interested to learn that it is making a return to our screens. Red Dwarf XI will be shown on Dave at 9pm on Thursday the 22nd of September 2016 ,mirroring its old BBC2 slot >>Click Here for The Red Dwarf XI page<<I've watched this series from the early days (series 2 onwards) and love it but I know its a bit of cult offering and some people loathe it. I'm going to tune in because the last series on Dave was pretty good, although I will concede that the best of this show was series 5 and 6. So if you like Red Dwarf don't be a "Smeg Head" give it a go and report back here

I watched Red Dwarf from the start and all the time that it was on BBC. I never saw the previous series on Dave but might give this a go.
Series 5 & 6 were very good, series 7 to a lesser degree, but series 8 irritated me a bit. Sections such as the Cat dancing with a Starbug made it seem that they were really struggling for material. I also thought that bringing Kochanski back in didn't do it any favours either. This was not a reflection on Chloe Annett but that the script didn't suit and that the continuity was lost without Claire Grogan.
Sam.

Spot on Sam. I think series 6 was the peak, 7 had some good episodes but 8 was too much of a departure from the original concept. The last series they did was way better than 8 even after the extended break.
The opening episode is available early online. It popped up on my Tivo box so I watched it this evening and enjoyed it. I won't elaborate to avoid spoilers.

Never watched Red Dwarf. I will try and give it a go. Charles. Well in a nutshell it runs a central theme from series 1 to 6 which was the shows main run. Red Dwarf is about a spaceship (Red Dwarf) belonging to the Jupiter Mining Corporation and its crew. The show focuses on some lowly ranked members of the crew. Third Maintenance Technicians Dave Lister and roommate Arnold Rimmer. Things quickly go wrong on Red Dwarf when Arnold gets promoted and the show then follows the adventures these guys have in deep space. Overall Red Dwarf mixes Sci Fi with comedy and the series got better year on year. If you do watch it series 1 and 2 are good for the backstory . Series 4,5 and 6 is where you will find the best episodes. The opening series 1 and 2 look sparse compared to the later I guess bigger budget series.

Never knew much about Red Dwarf but I know it's hugely popular, as it's my brother who got really into in and read the novels too and knows all about it! He and his mates were pleased one night when we were on holiday in 1994 at Bournemouth at a Bowling alley where Chris Barrie and the Brittas Empire cast were also having a Bowling Alley night. (They were visible but kept away from the public by security). But when they walked out the doorway afterwards on their own after my brother and his mates insisted on waiting outside for them, and........... they got to meet Chris, had a chat with him and he was a genuinely decent bloke and didn't have a problem with the lads at all" (aged 16-20 at the time - my brother was the oldest). Signed autographs and allowed himself to be photographed with my brother and his mates - the photo is now one of his treasured possessions! He even demonstrated a "Double Rimmer" on request!

Cool story Gerry Many people who have met Chris Barrie have said what a great guy he is Like many of us on 4:3tv he loves his motors and I for one can recommend some of the shows he fronted for Discovery.

And who can forget that Chris Barrie once lived in the House from Sweeney 2, where the Blaggers escaped though the house and shot one of their own in the back garden because he was lagging behind.
