Hi Everyone, Thank you for letting me join this forum. Is there anyone out there that knew or met Neil McCarthy? Please help us out. This photo of Neil is a 'candid family picture from Christmas 1975. Does anyone out there recognize any of Neil's family? Neil (bottom left corner), the little boy is his godson Teddy McDonald 1 years old and the car in the window appears to be a Sunbeam Rapier. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Please feel fee to 'friend' us on Neil's FB page. My Name is Adara Roze, I created the Neil McCarthy page on Facebook in loving memory for this gentle talented actor, who was taken from us far too young. (1932 - 1985.) Some of Neil's credits include: Catweazle, 1970 Where Eagles Dare, 1967 Zulu, 1964 Clash of the Titans, 1981 Who pays the Ferrymen. 1978 Time Bandits 1982 and a lot more. (Adara commenting)

That's a great photo Adara. Neil is instantly recognisable to me and I'm sure he will be to other members. Of course, I remember him as Lennie in the Steptoe & Son Ride Again, as well as Sam Armitage in The Professionals and of course the great Where Eagles Dare.
Hopefully someone on this forum may know a little more about him and also be able to confirm exactly what that car is in the picture.
Welcome to the forum
Gene.

Welcome to the forum Adara
Although I'm embarrassed to say that I never knew his name he was instantly recognisable to me too. I remember him in "Who Pays The Ferryman?" as well as many other series throughout the '70s.
He seemed to appear more as guest appearances in individual episodes of programs rather than a regular character as in WPTF?
As regards the car, that certainly looks like a Sunbeam Rapier but more specifically a Sunbeam Rapier Fastback with the characteristic rear screen and the emblem on the C pillar:

For some reason I get him confused with Jack Watson who he appeared with in 'The Hill'.

I'm a 'girl-type' person and I can NOT watch that movie, but I did look it up on iMDB . It also had Ian Hendry and Ian Bannen, and Sean Connory. Mr. Hendry deserved lot more recognition than he got, fantastic performance. And since I (Adara) am mostly blind, I can't even find our Neil in it. What type of role did he play? Adara

LLOOOOLLL WOW ! That is a MAN skill, to get that correctly from the little showing in the window of a low rez photo !. Chris Williams (Author of The Stories of Rhys, and a Neil FB Friend) also got it …. INSTANTLY !!!!.
Would that be a good assumption that perhaps it was Mr. McCarthy's car?
Adara

Adara It's been a while since I watched it but I think Neil had quite a small role as one of the soldiers in charge of the camp. He's actually a guest with Ian Bannen on Ian Hendry's "This Is Your Life", the part he's in starts at about 17mins 40secs.

The cute little 10 year old boy guest who is seated last (at the beginning) is Ian's Nephew Neil Hendry and he kindly forwarded the following photo This is Ian Hendry holding his baby girl on location of The Hill, with Neil McCarthy and Ian Bannen happily looking on. Neil Hendry also kindly shared a page from his autograph book from the set of This Is Your Life, where all the guest stars wrote little notes to all the children present. Neil McCarthy's note was the one we have on the Facebook page.
