Thanks also to Charles Bronson who has joined us on Facebook today. It all goes towards promoting and helping this forum grow
Gene.
I had a go at joining Facebook three or four weeks back Gene, but I lost my password or something. I've joined again as Chas Bronson today, but I must admit I'm a bit wary as I'm not too well up on the social networking lark but I'll have a go seeing we have such a great team on this forum. Excuse me if I make any mistakes, and feel free to point them out. (Any suggestions will be welcome.) Charles. Facebook can be a bit fiddly to use at first but you'll soon get the hang of it Charles.
A good way of promoting topics from this forum is to make use of the "Share" system we have on 4:3tv. If you find a thread that you like and want to share it on your Facebook page, go to the thread in question, go to the first page of that thread, and just above the very first post, you can see an "Actions" button along the top to the right. If you click on that, the drop down menu shows a "Share Thread" option. Hover over that, then select "Facebook" (or any of the other options such as Pinterest / Twitter etc). This will take you to a new page where you can type in a message to accompany the thread link you are sharing. Easy when you've done it once!
So,
1. Find the thread you want to share 2. Go to the first post of that thread. 3. Along the top of the 1st post, click on "Actions" 4. Hover over "Share Thread" 5. Click on Facebook 6. Enter your message (optional) to go with the link you are sharing 7. In the bottom right corner, click on "Post To Facebook"
Job Done!
REMEMBER THOUGH... THE IDEA IS TO DRIVE THE DISCUSSION OVER TO THIS FORUM - NOT KEEP IT ON FACEBOOK!
Gene.

Thanks for the help Gene. I'm sure I'll get to grips with it. I of course strongly agree with your final point.
Charles.

We've gained a couple of members from the FB promo so far so it's worthwhile

IMO, most of what's posted or shared on Facebook generally is a load of b******! However, it's nice to see that your promotion of the forum on there is working well Keep up the good work, Gene! Vi

As I said in an earlier post, I joined Facebook recently. They wouldn't allow me to join as Charles Bronson, so I had to join as Chas Bronson. people certainly seem to make you welcome and it could get very addictive. I've ticked quite a few friend requests. I don't know whether it's people genuinely asking, or Facebook automatically doing it. Still feeling my way, but I'm enjoying it. I worry a bit in case I inadvertently ignore people and offend them. All in all it seems to be going okay. Perhaps sometime in the future I will join under my other name as well.

Charles From your homepage you need to take the URL for your account rather than your name. Having just viewed it myself you will need to add the following (without the speech marks) into the Faecesbook box: "profile.php?id=100013289535749" Once you've inserted that and saved the profile update you should be hunky-dory. Sam. Hi Sam that's working fine now. Thanks a lot Cheers mate. Charles. I couldn't find the proper thread on Facebook, so I thought I'd post the latest update on my experience with it right here. (Perhaps the moderators might want to merge it later.) Anyway I tried to go into my Facebook account about thirty minutes ago and it seems it has been stopped on the grounds that I am using a fake name. I most certainly haven't been putting anything offensive or anything on it, so it's not that. I had a little look at it last night and everything was okay. There are loads of others using pseudonyms, (Hope I spelled that correctly.) I'm still not sure about using my own name yet. I will have a think about it. I enjoyed it anyway, and I will probably be back on before too long. Charles.

That happened to me too Charles, only my original Sam Tyler account was wiped completely with no return whatsoever. There was no email or warning correspondence, the account was just completely wiped.
The added nuisance was that I'd linked the Twitter account to it as well so that any Twitter posts would go straight on to the 4:3TV Facebook page too. Now that link is lost and I can't update it for my new Sammy Tyler Facebook account.

And now finally, the powers that be have deemed it necessary to disable my Facebook account fully. I invested far too much time in promoting 4:3tv on there which though it has helped gain a few members, is not worth my time setting it all up again to have it disabled yet again.
Therefore I shall be concentrating my efforts in promoting 4:3tv via other means, such as the far more user friendly Twitter, who have no such silly reservations about parody accounts.
GH.
