I wasn't old enough to vote in the last one as I was 15 in '75 but here we go again!
The difference is the weathers rotten and '75 was a good summer

Here's a discussion about EU membership fom 1985 with Kenneth Williams & others. This is what he says about his appearance in his diary- 'Rang the DTI about EEC & armed with information I went to Thames to take part in the EEC debate. Had quite a few facts to counter the crap from a Labour Euro MP'. I wonder if Kenneth would still feel as positive about EU membership today?
There are pros & cons either way but no one can deny that the EU has proven itself to be a fundamentally undemocratic machine with its restrictive laws and practices.

Polls over the last two weeks suggest that the Leave campaign may now win, although undecided voters - if they bother to vote - may swing the actual result in favour of Remain. A close win for either side on a low turnout would possibly mean another referendum, as the result would be inconclusive. BTW, Rupert Rigsby would definitely be for Out; Miss Jones for In Vi

A close win for either side on a low turnout would possibly mean another referendum, as the result would be inconclusive. Vi It appears close and that anything may swing it. However, the other day on Newsnight the only person to have publicly called the 2015 UK General Election result correctly was being interviewed (I can't remember his name), he is a Remainer himself, but reckons Leave will win the Referendum as the feeling he is getting from talking to people is that the polls are understating support for Leave. As with any UK election/referendum, the result is still legally conclusive on a very low turnout - even if the losing side may try to say otherwise after the election! ...BTW, Rupert Rigsby would definitely be for Out; Miss Jones for In Vi And I reckon the same could be said in real life of the Conservative supporting Leonard Rossiter and the Labour supporting Frances De La tour! it looks genuine Arthur! Some of the hard left are Outers, such as Dennis Skinner, Kate Hoey and Jeremy Corbyn - well at least he was for the 40 years before he became Labour leader! :w***er: The Saint

It is an issue which the two main parties have swapped sides on since the last vote in '75. Initially the Tories were broadly in favour of the EEC as it was, apart from the far right element, centred around Enoch Powell. Labour were divided, the left of Labour, which was more significant then, were opposed to it. Over time, the left became marginalised and Labour tended top become more in favour of membership, whilst the Tories went further and further to the right and became very divided on the issue.
The only consistent party are the Liberals/Lib Dems, who have been in favour of it all along.
