There seems to be a lot of films that are based around albums or portray the life of bands. Not sure if this thread should be in the film or music section.
One of the best films based around an album is Quadrophenia (1979) according to the tv paper review. This film is showing tonight on tv which made me think of this topic. I think the storyline and setting gave the film much of its longevity rather than just its music.
Others that spring to mind are -
Saturday Night Fever (1977) Walk the Line (2005) The Doors (1991) I don't think much of Val Kilmer as an actor, but he certainly did a top job portraying Jim Morrison

Good post Batgirl. Everyone will have their favourites here so won’t get into debates over which are good, bad, better or worse but a few music related films I enjoy are the following. 24 Hour Party People (2002) Spike Island (2012) Weekender (2011) Control (2007) The Great Rock n Roll Swindle (1979)/The Filth and The Fury (2000) Human Traffic (1999) – although have liked it less as time goes on! Made of Stone (2013) The Clash: Westway to the World (2000) I’m not a fan/watch these films but I reckon these also deserve a honourable mention too. Hard Days Night (1964) Jailhouse Rock (1957) Wild Style (1982) This is Spinal Tap (1984) Don’t Look Back (1967) Quadraphonia (1979)

I remember going to see the film, and I was probably around 15 at the time. The fight scenes were mega. Postmen seem to get a bad press in the film though. Other musical films are :- Grease Moulin Rouge :- and The Jungle Book :-

McVicar, whilst about a criminal is more or less the same format as Quadrophenia- a story driven by songs performed by The Who. Some I can think of are Flame, usually ( and incorrectly ) refered to as 'Slade In Flame' That'll Be The Day & its sequel Stardust The Harder They Come Breaking Glass Tommy Some more obscure British ones are 'Permissive', featuring a forgotten band called Forever More. 'Made' interesting 'docudrama' featuring folk singer Roy Harper, directed by John 'Long Good Friday' MacKenzie & released soon by Network on blu ray. networkonair.com/shop/2427-made-blu-ray-.html'Babylon', not quite about a band but about the reggae Soundsystem scene & featuring Brinsley Forde of Aswad. 'Dateline Diamonds' features the Small Faces.

Dateline Diamonds in on Talking Pictures TV this Friday night, looking forward to seeing this, Kenneth Cope in it too

Never Too Young To Rock less so. A friend suggested I get hold of a copy, and whilst the musical sections are great, especially Mud in the cafe, the rest of it is just appalling
The only film not mentioned that I also really like is the superb....
Good Vibrations (2013)

Thanks as always Arthur. This part of your post caught my eye.... ' Made' interesting 'docudrama' featuring folk singer Roy Harper, directed by John 'Long Good Friday' MacKenzie & released soon by Network on blu ray
Sounds well worth a watch
Extra interest for me when I noticed...
And if the subject matter is a touch off-putting, the fact Mackenzie shot extensively on location – with Brighton, a place I happen to adore, being particularly well represented – should leave viewers with a passion for period footage feeling suitably rewarded
Sold! Literally. Just bought my copy.
Anyone else seen it?
