I remember watching it when it was first shown on TV, think it would have been 1980. Liked the 70s London scenes but not a big John Wayne fan, never thought he was much good as an actor

I think I've mentioned this film in another thread before; though I've not watched it for years I remember Judy Geeson driving John Wayne around London in a Consul GT. I was lucky enough to have a lengthy phone conversation with Peter Brayham around 2003 & he did mention this film was the first time he'd persuaded Ford to lend him vehicles for filming. It was off the back of this that he negotiated the use of them in The Sweeney & later The Professionals. John Wayne looks like a fish out of water in London; I seem to remember that his IMDB doesn't even mention Brannigan; glossed over in favour of his 'Westerns'.

This is a film that is on my list to watch or pick up at a dvd sale. The London setting adds to its appeal.

Brannigan is on Netflix at the moment. I still haven't gotten around to watching it properly yet, but the bit I saw was good. I will try and watch it all the way through this week. Charles.

Watched this again last night. Pure entertainment with a tourist guide to London to boot. Wayne is a shocking actor though.

Watched this earlier, spotted Nosher Powell in the fight scene. I guess that this would have been around the same time as the fight scene was filmed for Night Out, couldn't have been too long between filming the two.

I watched 'Brannigan' again last night. What an entertaing film it is. I didn't think John Wayne looked out of place myself, and I'm glad he made it. Wayne had a long line of American predecessors making films over here, and I think he did really well compared to many of them. He looked entirely comfortable in the film. It's such a change seeing him in a modern action film, rather in a western.
I believe the film was better for being made in seventies London rather than in an American setting with other American actors. I also thought the director, (I forget his name) did a cracking job with the film. Some great support from our British actors too.
Apparently John Wayne was offered role of Dirty Harry before Clint Eastwood, and turned it down. Thats the reason Wayne decided to make a few modern action films, after seeing the success of 'Dirty Harry'

It's not a bad film and I love the location filming in London in 75, however I have a problem with John Wayne, I struggle a bit watching him because, in my opinion, he was such a rubbish actor, and the fact that he was a right wing crank who actively assisted McCarthy in the blacklisting of actors in the US in the early 50s tends to stand in the way of me liking his performances
