Network have released CI5 The New Professionals. I remember hearing about this around 1998, but as it was shown on Sky i never saw it. I do like a lot of shows Edward Woodward did so am tempted. Anyone else seen it ?

Used to remember watching the original show when I was a kid on a Sunday night then it was straight to bed lol.. It did start at a funny time like 9:20pm on Sunday night... The Professionals is still good to watch but for me will never be in the same league as the Sweeney! I think the characters and their relationships just don't gel together the same and the quality of the episodes is not as consistent like the Sweeney..
But hey to me the Sweeney is untouchable!!!

Anyone else seen it ? It was panned at the time and thankfully I have never seen it. I generally don't follow what critics say but I have heard in this case they were right. This thread popping up reminds me that I really must get The Professionals series 4 Blu Ray. Has anyone else got that ? I hope they finish the job of as well as they started it.

I've never been really into The Professional. Perhaps I should give it another try. I like the sound of the BlueRay edition. It sounds terrific, going by what has been said on this thread.

Its Network's best restoration work Charles. There are some really great episodes throughout the series IMO. Probably series 2 and 3 were the best.

There are some really great episodes throughout the series IMO. Probably series 2 and 3 were the best. Yeah that's how I see it with the Pro's too Del. Series 1 feels very different to the other series and some episodes in retrospect are a little naff but others are fairly good too. By Series 2-4 they got most of the writers and crew from The Sweeney etc. on board and sure they brought some of their techniques and styles to the show and also the Bodie/Doyle dynamic began to gel well - even if the actors themselves weren't exactly best friends... Series 4 is generally good but does tail off a bit in parts and probably/arguably it's due to Martin Shaw's reluctance to carry on with it and wanting to do other things. There's always been the rumour Shaw (Doyle) was going to be replaced from 1981 onwards with a new character (Murphy?) or character's had the series carried on into the 80's. As for The New Professionals I may take a punt on it as Sky did heavily edit the episodes and messed around with it's slots on the channel which meant I didn't watch all the episodes either so can't really say how good or bad it really was. I do think it suffered from them not getting Lewis Collins on board - continuing the link with the old series and (see above) the shocking way Sky treated it too. But who knows perhaps The New Pro's is a turd that couldn't be polished?
