That redevelopment would be more suited to that no man's land area in between the Universities, Oxford Road and the Mancunian Way rather than the part of Manchester it's proposed in. But eh ho hum sure it's a done and dusted deal. Being honest I feel recent redevelopment in Manchester doesn't seem as good as it did in the late 90's early 00's but sure it'll be touted as progress... until it's demolished in 2035 or something.

I take a punt and bet it won't last that long. Just as I've talked about the demolition in Benwell, Newcastle in the Likely Lads locations thread, some of the replacement buildings were not as good as what they pulled down. Just North of the Likely Lads locations on Adelaide Terrace, many existing shops were demolished in the late 60s to make way for the Benwell Shopping Centre - a horrible concrete complex. It was labelled a white elephant as soon as it was built. It remained half empty for years before being demolished in the 90's. Gene.

I utterly detest the kind of architecture that this development represents. It's a complete monstrosity as has been said already. I don't know why people put up with it. I'm suprised at the total number of signatures on the petition, though. I thought there would have been more, considering the history of this pub.

This is just the sort of development where Prince Chas's description fits to a T - a monstrous carbuncle. How these people get away with designing them in the first place, let alone building them, is beyond me. It is nothing more than a tarted up version of 60's brutalist architecture. Sam

Sam A lot of people share our views on modern buildings Sam. I was out in our city Center for a few hours last night for a few drinks, with some work mates, and some of the lads were commenting on the new horrible buildings standing right next to the good traditional ones. It's a pity we couldn't have citizens committees or something similar, so that people could have an input into choosing designs, though the powers that be would probably corrupt that in some way. Charles.

Interesting that Guardian article Art. Pretty much they're saying everyone outside the Giggs/Neville consortium and Manchester City Council are dead set against it but... as I've said before seems a done deal as with most of these things one way or another. Also I'm not against that type of redevelopment in Manchester but reckon it would work much, much better in a different part of the city centre.

I saw another example of modern architecture earlier this morning on the BBC Breakfast Show. The Manchester Imperial War Museum. Horrible!

Aren't the designs of the architecture used for both of IWM North and the IWM London meant to be done in a way to show the horror of war or something? It's what I've heard anyway.
