Just be re-watching these again on DVD after a bit of a break and noticed the hospital at the begining of The Germans is Northwick Park Hospital a long way from Torquay in North West London. Also the audio commentaries suggest many of series 1's location work (Andre's Restaurant, Basil's Austin 1300 Trashing...) was done nearby in the Kenton area so if I can ID/get around to it may take a few shots and put them on here too. DE Mentmore Close in Kenton is where Basil thrashed his Austin 1300, I visited it about 10 to 15 years back, it looked pretty much the same. Andre's Restaurant was located in Preston Road Wembley I believe. It would be good to get some shots on here The Saint

Thanks Saint. On the coms John Cleese mentions the Kenton locations so they're something I'd think of checking out in the near future. I'll be watching Series 2 soon too but don't think they do much (if any) outside location work on the later one and will defo check these locations out soon too.

I live about 15 minutes from Torquay (not that it was actually filmed there, but you know what I mean!).
It is a classic. Basil is an exceptional character, but really the main cast are all great in different ways. My dad absolutely doubles up with laughter when Major is involved.
It's crazy when you see them listed like that that that's all there was.

“ You do have rats in Spain, or did Franco have them all shot!?”
Brilliant, brilliant series, the only slightly below par episode IMO was the Anniversary where Basil got Polly to dress up as Sybil

One of the quotes that gets banded around a lot with my parents is "Mother Johnson, Mother Johnson, come out, come out, wherever you are!"
And the wardrobe tapping

Another bit I like is in the Wedding Party, where Basil nearly has a heart attack when the guy asks him if he has any batteries
” I know what you people do and I think it’s DISGUSTING!!”
Then he realises they are for his electric razor and it’s disgusting that he hasn’t shaved!

I've been watching the 're runs on Monday night's and it's still as laugh out loud funny as the first time I saw it in 75.
I always had The Germans as my favourite, and it's still brilliant, but I think The Hotel Inspector has replaced it. Bernard Cribbins is superb in it as the annoying Me Mr Hutchinson, he really annoys Basil so much. My least favourite is still the Anniversary, although it does have it's moments. Probably because this one is based around Basils personal life, rather than him arguing with the guests.

You're spot on about Bernard Cribbins in 'The Hotel Inspector'. Normally I can take him or leave him but in that he's brilliant absolutely spot on as the pain in the... Mr Hutchison, you kind of root for Basil in that one.
So glad they stuck with the 12 episodes and never brought it back again, just right!
