After a trip to Millwall today:
Then: Sherry (a very young Gillian Taylforth) pulls up at Burrell's Wharf at Millwall in her Renault 5 (the Range Rover with its complex seatbelts came much later!) before finding the security guard missing from his gatehouse:
Now: Burrell's Wharf has had a bit of a clean up and some new developments built within the wharf. The land on which the gatehouse stood is inaccessible as it is now a residential terrace of houses preventing me from getting exactly the same perspective:
Then: When released from the gatehouse the German Shepherd runs around to the front of the warehouse (which is now magically relocated to Wapping and a distance of 3¼ miles from Millwall) barking at the shutters in his quest to find the security guard:
Now: The warehouse has been converted into a mix of residential and commercial premises, the shutter doors now having been replaced with normal doors into an estate agents:
Then: Seconds later Sherry appears around the corner of the warehouse after following the German Shepherd in the search for the security guard:
Now: The wire mesh is off of the windows, the sill and rainwater downpipe have been repaired, but the building behind which is actually a police station, with its obscure mouldings remains unchanged aside from the windows being painted Rozzer blue:
Then: Viewed from the second floor window we see Alan (Brian Hall) drive up in the Cortina "across the road" from the security guard's gatehouse in his quest to "speak" to the guard who is a known informant:
Now: The stonework around the door has been reworked and the ground floor windows changed for louvre doors. Once again the perspective can't be matched because the second floor window belongs to an apartment in the original warehouse:
The security guard is found by both Alan and Sherry but I'll not elaborate here. It would have been good to be able to get to that location within the warehouse but as it is again residential there was no chance.
Sam.
