Anyone here a fan of On The Buses? Here is the cast on Wogan, it is from 1990 The Saint Love it. Watched (most) of the box set and the films over again recently. Stan, Jack, Blakey, just classic!

That Bob Grant interview is heartbreaking, that poor man. He never should have been treated that way. Typecasting is just awful to suffer.
I believe Reg Varney went to Australia for a bit, to do some concert tour, something like that. He retired to the coast and became an artist, his paintings are lovely, he was very talented.

I struggle to understand why he wasn't offered some good roles, clearly he could do the work. Unemployment can be very unpleasant, heavens how many have suddenly found themselves in it during the past year.

It can be if you are ill and can't do what you would like to do, I understand that, but in a slightly different way to Bob. Thankfully I was able to work and even though it was low paid - just min wage - I was still able to save and economise - which I was always used to doing anyway - so I could move abroad. I didn't grow up poor but I cared for my late grandfather through his illness and I was always just taught to be careful with money, grandparents were war children so lived through rationing, etc. I am now not working through choice and it's a very different feeling than not working because that situation has been placed upon you by something beyond your control. Choice shouldn't be underestimated.

I Love This 1969 till 1973 Tv Series Hence The Nickname . i grow up watching repeats on telly and have a extremely large collection of on the buses memorabilia, including Reg Varney's Personal Stuff, eg his suitcases piano notes even his hat which he wore in australia in the early 70s or 80s to promote otb. unfortunately nowadays the series isnt seen much on telly as certain scenes are cut out - even the films, eg holiday on the buses , with the woman when her top falls off and you see her tits . even olives bum in the pool . sadly that is the snowflake generation nowadays.

The TV series I could slightly take or leave, the films I thought were actually better. More location filming, which I liked, I thought the locations, around Borehamwood were very good, and have a great nostalgic appeal as a snapshot of everyday street scenes of the early 70s, which you took for granted at the time, but would love to see again

At least there wasn't bloomin traffic calming measures then or those damn 20 mph limits which frankly I refuse to comply with.

The American version of On The Buses, 'Lotsa Luck', is on youtube if you want to marvel at how bad it is. According to wikipedia this is the unaired pilot, it's a version of 'Family Flu' the first episode of series 2 of OTB. Lotsa Luck was not a ratings success apparently & lasted one season of 22 episodes.
