Just watched S1 Ep 3 & 4. It's getting better! Seems it was just the first episode that threw me.
Couple of questions; Does Gene know that Alex has travelled back from the future? If not, how can she just turn up without any history as a D.I.? Also, why does he call her 'Bolly'?

Bolly is short for Bollinger Champagne, a reference to Alex being posh.

It's the type of show that leaves the audience to make up their minds about certain elements, such as if Gene knows who what & why. I'm not going to give away anything here as more and more becomes apparent as the show progresses through the 3 series, and only in the final episode do we get a lot of answers to a lot of questions.
Gene refers to Alex as Bols, Bolly, Bollinger Knickers throughout the show. As The Saint says, it is a reference to Alex being posh. Bollinger Knickers - Fancy Pants.

Don't worry Del, it is what we've come to expect of you. There's a whole world of champagne and wines, it doesn't stop at Asda's Asti Spumante.

Fair enough. Perhaps I should've added that I didn't want spoilers, but you didn't anyway. Cheers Gene.

No worries Baz. As I said, the facts do slowly open up as the show progresses through the 3 series. Not only answering questions about the Ashes To Ashes characters, but also the Life On Mars characters. A lot if not all the loose ends are tied up.

I started watching Ashes to Ashes last night, ( Whilst sipping a few bottles of Belgian beer.)and about time too. It was brilliant seeing the first appearance of Gene and his team again, seven years on from Life On Mars. Phillip Glenister is as good as ever in the part. I found the woman Alex Drake slightly annoying at times in the first episode. I loved the end bit where Gene knowing Alex was stressed out, coolly walks over, pours her a full glass of red wine and goes back over to where he was sitting, leaving her alone. Will be watching ep. 2 tonight. I'm not going to rush the three series, they're too good for that.
