I’ve been following this years V8 Supercars season on BT Sport/Motors TV this year and quite enjoying things so far and just wondering if anyone else is a fan too. It’s been an interesting season with Prodrive’s Pepsi Max Ford Falcon’s dominating early season and driver Mark Winterbottom building a lead in the championship. However their other driver Chaz Mostert got injured at Bathurst and in the last few rounds the Red Bull Racing Australia Holden’s have been clawing them back so to the other Prodrive Ford Entry with their respective drivers Craig ‘Lowndsey’ Lowndes and David Reynolds significantly catching Winterbottom’s lead in the championship. It’s all shaping up for a good conclusion between Reynolds, Lowndes and Winterbottom in the remaining rounds at Philip Island and the Sydney street circuit. Personally I’d like it if Ford could have one last championship before the Falcon bows out this year and I’ve also been impressed with the racing generally this season and drivers like Shane Van Gisbergen, Fabian Coulthard, Garth Tander who’ve been equally impressive this year with defending champion Jamie Whincup also coming back to form after a poor start to the season too. Hope the last rounds are good ones and hope to get out to a V8 race if/when I'm back down under. Any thoughts.

I've not been following them but enjoy watching them and the V8 Utes whenever I get the opportunity.
I do like the close racing that such classes provide but they must be a bit of a handful to chuck about like that.
I'm also surprised that we don't see more of the road-going versions here in the UK. Some Holdens have made their way over but I'd have thought that cars like the Monaro with their 5.7 and 6.0 litre V8 engines would have had a slightly bigger market over here.
I know I'd sooner have a Ute over something like a Nissan Navara!
Sam.

Too true Sam not so sure about Ford but surprised Opel/Vauxhall haven't brought Holden's V8 Ute's to the European market too.

Saw the last races a couple of weeks ago and glad that Mark Winterbottom 'Frosty' won his first title and the last for the Ford Falcon too. Not to say I didn't like the challenge from Craig Lowndes and the Holden's too and overall liked following the V8 season this year and hope to do one of these races in Aus/NZ some point soon too! www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/thank-you/

I really must keep a watch out for this series it is a great spectacle.
I've been getting to know some of the names over the years but don't see enough of it.
Mind you, there's not enough hours in the day if I were to sit and watch every motorsport that interests me.
Sam.

Same here Sam. I could watch this stuff all day long, but seldom get the chance when Bols watches her stuff.

Caught up on the first race in Adelaide (including the Clipsal 500) a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with it. Seems everyone's finding their feet with the opening of the season with 888/Red Bull Racing Australia's Jamie Whincup taking the first race then James Courtney taking race 2 for Holden Racing Australia and Holden topping off a complete sweep with Nick Percat taking the main Clipsal 500 race. The Clipsal 500 itself had to be abandoned at one point due to heavy rain and prior to this there were a few nasty smashes including Chaz Mostert who's only just back from a even nastier smash at Bathurst which ended his season. Will be PVRing the Tasmania Supersprint this weekend and looking forward to it! And like last year will (try) to keep up with the whole season too.

With the races at Perth coming up this weekend I caught up on a few more races recently. Quite a topsy turvey season at the moment with no real clear driver/car/team having an advantage at the moment. Races 4/5 where at Tasmania (Symmons Plain) and were won by Holden drivers Shane Van Gisbergen (Red Bull Racing Australia) and Will Davidson (Darrell Lea/STIX). Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo qualified and ran well but had a few dramas in the races and some of the so called big guns/teams like Craig Lowndes, Jamie Whincup, Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom and Holden Racing Team had mixed fortunes during that weekend. Races 6/7 where at Phillip Island and both were won by Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo and in the final race Winterbottom sneaked a 2nd place when Jamie Whincup threw it off the road towards the close stages of the race. Unlike last year with Ford’s and Prodrive’s early dominance nobody is really making a play for the championship at the moment. Some good close racing too and looking forward to watching the Perth races too.

Caught up on the two Perth races recently. Race 8's start got affected by heavy rain but everyone got off alright. Cameron Waters for Prodrive Racing Australia (PRA)/Ford got pole but was quickly overwhelmed by the Red Bull Holdens of Whincup and Van Gisbergen. During the race a few shockers for Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo and Mark Winterbottom 'Frosty' in the PRA/Ford who but Craig Lowndes in the 888/Caltex Holden played a great game of strategy and on fresher tyres powered to the lead in the closing stages and held off for a win on slicks in the wet. Race 9 was more of an endurance race and was deterimined more by strategy. Pole sitter Chaz Mostert in the PRA/Ford got bogged down at the start and was quickly down the order to Lowndes and the Red Bull's however a strategy call by PRA for Frosty played off and he had the lead in the closing stages. As Race 9 came to a end Frosty had McLaughlin and Lowndes bearing down on him but just about had enough in hand to hold them off for the win - something of a relief for the defending champion who so far has had a very mixed and hit and miss season and had a awful almost DNF race in Race 8. Once again really enjoying the action in this series and looking forward to the next races at Winton in Victoria this weekend. Will review ASAP!

Caught up with last weekend's races 10/11 at Winton raceway in Victoria and again a good standard of racing throughout and another new winner for this season with Tim Slade taking both races for Freightliner/Brad Jones racing and this years second double winner after Volvo's Scott McLaughlin. A bit of a mixed bag for the chasing pack with Mark Winterbottom 'Frosty', Scott McLaughlin, Rick Kelly, Fabian Coulthard (he's no relation to David), Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whinchup being best of the rest in both races. A shocker for HRT/Holden's James Courtney in both races having collisons with Ford's newcomer Cameron Waters in Race 10 (50/50 that one) and another with another Ford driver Chaz Mostert in Race 11. (Frosty) Winterbottom's now the championship leader but a slender one from Volvo's McLaughlin and overall the well fancied teams like Red Bull/Caltex 888 Holden and the Prodrive Ford's haven't blown everyone away this season which bodes well for a good close fight throughout. Bring on the next round!
