Porridge re-make will never happen. Because Harry Grout says so!

Dont forget his offer to remove to lance a boil - 'I'll get one of my lads to do it'.
There was also his budgie transportation service.
And until there's a remake he's still in charge of the swimming pool!

Absolutely no!! As has been said already why can't they think up something original! Between this & now they're remaking classic puppet based programmes like Thunderbirds in animation; I'm waiting for the Mary Mungo & Midge remake now!

Think about Mr Humphries (although they could cast The Stain in that role!)

Made the mistake of watching this yesterday, every bit as naff as you'd expect. I missed Are You Being Served so watched some on iplayer to see how bad it was, surprisingly that was completely crap as well.

A bit cruder than the original AYBS. It was half an hour of outrageous innuendo, single entredre and double entendre, and it did make me laugh. The jokes weren’t merely telegraphed in, but arrived by carrier pigeon, you could see them coming a mile away. The jokes about Mrs Slocombe's pussy were still as funny and blatant, as was Miss Brahms’s pronunciation of Cpt. Peacock’s name.
I thought Roy Barraclough captured Mr Grainger particularly well.
As a one off it was great to see and enjoy, but not worthy of a series.

I agree. I don't think they should make a series of it, but I did enjoy the odd moment. Some of the characterisation was spot on. Roy Barraclough was superb as Mr Grainger. Sherrie Hewson was very good as Mrs Slocombe, and Jason Watkins did as well as anyone could with Mr Humphries. I think John Challis as Capt Peacock was rubbish, as was Arthur Smith as Mr Harmon.
Reliant on more crudity than the original, but as a one off, not too bad. Better than most remakes anyway.
Gene.
