Back Home by The England World Cup Squad takes me back to 1970, watching the players in tuxedos on Top of the Pops and in colour from Mexico.
Slade's Cum on Feel the Noize takes me back to primary school in 1973 and the 70s dolly bird who taught us, Miss Eliott. She wore a mini skirt.
Tunes from that summer of summers, 1976, always transport me back to a time when my flares covered my shoes and my cheesecloth shirt was unbuttoned to the naval. Radio 1 Roadshows in the Floral Hall Gardens, Southport. If we only knew then what was really going on behind the scenes.... Dancing Queen, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Davy's On The Road Again, I'd Really Love To See You Tonight, Silly Love Songs, Afternoon Delight, You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine, Let Your Love Flow etc. I'm back there now just thinking about them.........

Crikey Dickie. You've just reeled off some classics there. All evocative of the time.
Gene.

It's wonderful how hearing the first few notes or bars of a particular song take you back instantly, I think it happens more often the older you get too. One track above all others seems to have an effect on me more than ever these days, I can't hear The Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again' without being taken right back to 1971 and watching my uncle put his prized 'Who's Next' LP on his newly purchased turntable in Cromwell Avenue, Hammersmith, I was only a nipper but it has stayed with me all these years. The fact that the band members all grew up a couple of miles away makes me feel all the more attached to this record somehow. Likewise with so many great songs of that era, all of which trigger very specific (and very vivid) meories... Mungo Jerry's 'In The Summertime' from 1970, it seemed to be everywhere and going back a little further Mary Hopkins' 'Those Were The Days' which was on the radio in our old kitchen all the time in the late Summer of '68, I was only three at the time but recall it so well, with my Mum dancing round the kitchen to it, followed by The Beatles 'Hey Jude', which it knocked off the number one spot that Summer. Later on I remember 10cc's 'I'm Not In Love' being all over the radio in 1975, hearing it now takes me back to being ten years old and I still can't believe the record itself is actually four decades old! Great times, great tunes... Villain

Thanks for that Dickie Silly Love Songs takes me straight back to the first party I went to at the age of 14 where drink and birds were on my agenda. I took a four-pack of Colt 45 and managed to get a good snog with one of the girls from my class. I know what happened to that particular girl so won't mention her name - but whatever happend to Colt 45? Sam.

For me it's much of the 80's music when new, takes me back to my later Primary school days like stuff by Adam and the Ants and Madness, then the mid to late 80's music by the likes of Dire Straights, Wet Wet Wet and Hue and Cry, or Janet Jackson etc, remind me of later teenage years, just before leaving school and aftewards. Was played on my older mates car stereo or at the parties I went to. Earliest music I can remember as far back was the Grease soundtrack and the Beegees Night Fever round about the time I was about 7 - in 1978.
For some reason Leo Sayer's "One mad band" sticks in my mind playing through my head during first day at Secondary school in September 1982. Certainly does take you back hearing certain songs again

Every Tom, Dick or Walt who likes the taste of malt will like the malt in a Colt 45 Must've taken the Mad Men all of 33 seconds to come up with that....

Wow great thread loads of songs make me think of days gone by !
Gary numan " CARS" was the first song I ever bought and it takes me back to the day I bought it sitting in those old style booths were you could here the song before you bought it (hahahah) with headphones on .
Funny some songs I never really liked take me back to happy times like the song "TURNING JAPENESE" takes me back to a family holiday at Scarborough when I was at a kids disco when I was 8 or 9.
Great days

For me its whenever I hear Olivers Army by Elvis Costello as it was the first record I bought. I can still see the image of Woolworths in my mind where I bought it. Also Going Underground by The Jam takes me back too. Again things like Pop Music by M as remember taping the top forty off the radio on a sunday tea time and hoping everyone was quiet as didn't have a combined radio and tape player.
