Interesting 808 state mix, cheers Dirt I can see why UB40 didn't like it ,its very different from their Reggae. It fits into the whole general opinion of the time regarding the dance music scenes. A lot of people hated it and still do. Me, i loved it all but looking back I think a lot of the dance stuff hasn't aged well. Shakin Stevens career was interesting considering he came along right at the tail end of the whole 50's revival thing we've seen on the repeats over the last few years. Considering the musical revolution was changing quickly again becoming less about punk ,new wave and more about Electronic music and new romantics, its amazing to think in the face of it that he carved out a very successful chart career lasting about 5 years. I suppose it was because he was a very good performer, his songs were catchy and more pop sounding not long after this. Looking back at these times through TOTP repeats is fascinating. I was very young at the time and remember these songs well but its really interesting now to look at it from a different viewpoint. Young people old enough to get out to pubs and clubs throughout this 78-83 period were certainly spoilt for choice with a lot of great music around.

Thanks for posting the 808 State vid Dirtyepic. One In Ten is a brilliant UB40 song, and I think this mix does it justice.
I was so much into the dance music of this time. I suppose it was because I was now old enough to start getting into Discotheques, as they were called then, that influenced me. The latest editions of Top Of The Pops bring back so many memories. So much fabulous music. Even the bad I find good (Dr Hook excepted).

A lot of acts that we'd seen before in this week's show. Liquid Gold made their third appearance for "Dance Yourself Dizzy", which is overload for me. A repeat showing of Genesis "Turn It On Again, Babe", and a repeat showing of Siouxsie & The Banshees "Happy House". The Dooleys were also a repeating act. So, it's next week's show that we really need to look forward to :- 03 04 1980 JUDAS PRIEST – Living After Midnight MADNESS – Night Boat To Cairo BARBARA DICKSON – January February DEXY’S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS – Geno THE PRETENDERS – Talk Of The Town LEON HAYWOOD – Don’t Push It, Don’t Force It UB40 – Food For Thought THE SELECTER – Missing Words B.A. ROBERTSON – Kool In The Kaftan THE LAMBRETTAS – Poison Ivy PRIMA DONNA – Love Enough For Two THE JAM – Going Underground DR. HOOK – Sexy Eyes The highlight is Legs & Co's dance to Leon Haywood "Don't Push It, Don't Force It" The first 20 seconds or so being unmissable

A correction. The Sky At Night is shown on Thursday 16 April, instead of Top Of The Pops So we have to wait an extra week for the next edition, and that epic 20 seconds of Legs & Co
