Been watching bits n pieces of these over the last few weeks and saw a bit of last nights one. Finally put a handle on the Liquid Gold track that featured in Carrott del Sol where Sago (JC) and the lads try and fail to get into Regimes and I think early 1980 was a last gasp of Disco before a lot of the electronic sounds took over the dancefloor and I’ll be looking out for these on future TOTP episodes. TBH I preferred the Gibson Brothers Cuba a lot more than Liquid Gold’s track and those green shorts FFS. Personal faves were Vapours, SLF and the Peter Gabriel, with Gabriel in particular showing a bit of a change of style and a move towards more of a New Wave/Synthpop-lite style. Mind you not so sure on his hairstyle and suit in that promo though looked more like a 1970's cop show villain than a Hippy-ish musician.

I think early 1980 was a last gasp of Disco before a lot of the electronic sounds took over the dancefloor Liquid Gold are just the start. There's stuff like Lipps Inc. "Funky Town", Kelly Marie "Feels Like I'm In Love", and Ottawan "D.I.S.C.O." all still to come (puke) Happy dancing

Kelly Marie >:D utterly horrible track with that primative electronic drum sound(do do-) . It was interesting to see Ray Dorset from Mungo Jerry fame speak about it on The Story Of 1980. He said he wanted Elvis to have it . Ottawan is pretty lame too.

I watched the full version tonight The show opened with Jefferson Starship for the second time in as many weeks, which is strange as it's not a bad track. Elvis Costello ...This was a solid performance of a good song. Marti Webb .. Hmmm this ones not for me I'm afraid. Its mediocre MOR stuff. I remember she persisted in killing this minor hit on her ITV performances in the 80's. The Vapours... Turning Japanese ...Brilliant track, always loved it. Strange how this band fell apart quickly considering they had a great sound on this record and were managed by Bruce Foxton. Wacko Jacko ... Rock with you. Good polished sound thats easy to listen to, very smoooooth. Its not his best work, but a good track none the less. Liquid Gold ... Cheesy introduction Cheesy green shorts WTF cheesy fake xylophone section Cheesy song.....and still it's a gnats better than the fooking Nolans ........ Gibson brothers ... Cuba, good track. Peter Gabriel .... I like this one. And As Dirtyepic mused, it's bang up to date musically with its electronic feel. Stiff little Fingers... Punk about 3 years too late. It sounds dated after music moved on quickly over the last two years with New Wave etc. I doff my cap to punk though for heralding in a great new era Dave Edmunds... Like some of his stuff but this is very weak. Surely Singing the Blues definitive version has to be Guy Mitchell from 1956 ? I think Guy's is way better than this, believe me. Police ... Sue Lawley This track should climb well after this Nationwide airing The Girls were on good form with a good routine ,but by their standards were overdressed this week Rainbow .. Good sounding heavy rock The Shadows .. Apart from laughing at Hank Shaking and caressing his whammy bar ,I thought it was a good track. Blondie....... Atomic excellent , a worthy number 1 :clap2:
David Bowie... A lot of this fine Artist's work is genius. A bit of his stuff is awful ..... oh dear sorry Dave this was awful.

I do agree with what you say about the Nolans. Worst all girl band to ever exist. Dance Your Self Dizzy returned in 1999 when it was sampled by Yomanda on "Synth and Strings" Peter Gabriel .... I like this one. And As Dirtyepic mused, it's bang up to date musically with its electronic feel. Kate Bush on backing vocals 8-) doing the "Jeux Sans Frontiers" bit The Girls were on good form with a good routine ,but by their standards were overdressed this week Not a problem. Always nice to see Legs & Co. I thought Lulu looked gorgeous and leggy in that very tight black outfit

Now I liked a bit of House, Acid and Hardcore back in the day but that track is none too hot. Must be the turd he used as a sample

How annoying this occurs when good stuff is on. Echo Beach is a great track Thanks for keeping us in the the Loop Mr Miller

Here is what everyone missed from the 6 March 1980 edition :- The Lambrettas :- Captain & Tenille (or Tenille in very soft focus) Martha & The Muffins. Great record; a timeless classic Legs & Co. The girls were dressed as the Match Maker Fairy for this. They also showed a photograph from Pauline's recent wedding Dave Lee Travis displaying his usual "infectious" "touchy" side Real shame this edition is not being shown. A lot of good stuff was included in this show. Gill dances along with Shakin Stevens. And Tony Rallo and the Midnight Band - the No.1 of one hit wonders.
