Just wondered if there were any other 4:3TV folk at the Gilmour gig at the Royal Albert Hall on 25th Sept? Wouldn't be surprised as it was packed to the rafters, not a spare seat anywhere. After playing a bit of new stuff he pretty quickly got into the back-catalogue, and to my delight played a fair bit from the Division Bell. I know purist's will say DB wasn't a proper Floyd album without Waters; it may have been their last album, but for me it was my first (1993), so I've had to get to know them in reverse. Hearing this fabulous music for real was spine-tingling, that soaring, effortless guitar playing was brilliant. The light show was pretty amazing too; although not great if you don't like strobe lighting. Later in the week, I went and saw the Roger Waters' Wall film at the cinema (the live concert as opposed to the film with Bob Geldof in it); it was weird hearing the same songs played by two different blokes. For me, nothing they've done on their own has matched what they did collectively.

Good post Athene. Can't say I'm a fan as such but I do like Pink Floyd/solo projects and they're very interesting musicians to me. I know Waters and Gilmour aren't the sworn enemies that they were say 10-15 years ago but not sure I'd like a Pink Floyd reunion tbh. The a modern day version of this is the Hooky v's New Order feud going on at the moment but I do share your frustration when bands slip over ego, pettiness etc. and end up with side projects which you feel would have been better if they'd got back in the fold of the bands which made them good in the first place. Strangely I got much Pink Floyd being honest so is there anything you recommend? and sounds like you had a good gig there hope to do the Royal Albert Hall sometime very soon myself!

Thanks Dirty Epic. Think you're right about them just getting on with it! As a recommendation, I'd say Momentary Lapse of Reason is a good one to start with. It was the first CO I reached for for the car stereo after I got back from this gig. I struggle with a lot of the early stuff, apart from Dark Side of the Moon, some of it's a bit too psychedelic!

I heard this was a great gig from a friend at work who attended and it sounds like you had a good time.
I agree with your point about artists solo work never matching the collective bands work. Its pretty much the case for all bands who go their separate ways.
