Worst film I ever seen -
"How to get ahead in advertising" around 1988.
In my defence, I never actually paid to see it.
At the time I visited a mate's cinema and it was showing.
I was stood in the Projection Room trying to make out what the hell was going on - I even had to turn the monitor speaker up to listen to it.
Oddly, he had an audience of around 150 people in there; considering the screen seated 300 - having it 1/2 full wasn't bad.
I asked why the heck he was showing the film; and was told is was part of a deal with the Film Distributers.
At the time - the major circuit cinemas could only have a big film on first release. So by the time the smaller cinemas got the film, it'd be out on video and audience numbers low.
In a deal with UIP, he wanted "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" on release (which filled his cinema for about 2 weeks) - part of the deal he had to take ..."advertising" on and show that - as none of the large circuits would show it.
It was a good gamble, as it proved to other film companies that he could fill the cinema, with the right content.
So they were less reluctant to give him first release films.
He premiered the Dennis Waterman film "Cold Justice" (which he still has the 35mm print of as the film co went bankcrupt).
I have a load of the publicity stuff from it.
Will scan it in for all to see now things are getting back to normal (electronically)!
The worst film I ever worked on was a film called Scintilla - which was a Horror/Sci-Fi film shot in and around Huddersfield.
It was set somewhere in Russia, where British whoevers with Guns infiltrated a Russian Science Lab who were doing tests on odd viruses, one got out a few years before and started a pandemic....
Once the lab was infiltrated, they discovered Mutant people and experiments on Humans.....
Something remarkably familiar about a few of the aspects of the plot. (This was shot in winter 2013).
I have bad memories of this whole job - as it was freezing cold; snowed; VERY long hours; a Grip was bittern by and Adder Snake - after disturbing it's hibernation den in a forest.
One of the producers was a total A**hole - and refused to honor overtime - despite working in excess of 14 hour days and expecting our Genny Driver to break driving laws and drive after his hours were up...
The trailer looked better than the film. (And that's saying something)
Cold Justice would be interesting to see, even if it's a bad film... not quite sure what happened to Dennis Waterman from the late '80's to his New Tricks reinvention.
