Watching this now. Why would Cree virtually write off a Jag in that fashion? Doesn’t seem very realistic. Agreed. I always find this scene overplayed. Why on earth does he sit there burning the tyres away when he's clearly not going anywhere? Gene. Yeah, surely after you’d filmed that scene you’d sit back and think, er no!!

Yeah, surely after you’d filmed that scene you’d sit back and think, er no!! Suppose it was all for the purpose of making a pretty much run of the mill chase scene more dramatic. A bit daft in reality and Cree and Feast didn't seem the sharpest tools in the box either as Jack showed them up to be later on.

I would have also been very surprised if a Met Police DS used his own private car (we are led to believe) and ends up wrecking it trying to chase a suspect. That Jag was of course used in other episodes as a blaggers motor

True Gerry that seems unlikely, however Cree and Feast seem like a couple of chancers and if they're eager to put someone like Davy in the frame for doing over Turner they may be putting the lean on him/fit him up unofficially they knew and mentioned Davy's 'old man' after all... this could still happen even now.

Sadly I think Law and Order was more accurate than the Sweeney for 70's specialist squad policing.

Just rewatched this episode.
The speedway sequence is great, as is the scene in the chippy
Karl Howman was good in it as Davey - he was a face who was regularly on TV, and continues to this day...
He was even in "Party Party" for anyone who remembers that film - and in Stardust with David Essex

I liked it when they chased Davey in the car. Quite a funny scene.

I was watching an episode of Minder this morning and Frank Mills turned up. Frank Mills also played a role in the Sweeney episode 'May'. Well I just looked him up and pleased to say he is one Sweeney actor who is still with us. In his nineties now but still going strong.
P.S. Frank Mills was excellent as a bookie in 'Big Deal'.

Started my Christmas (well almost) Sweeney episode watching with May last night. You can sense the heat of the summer of '76 in some of the scenes and notice the parched grass around Wimbledon Common.
I remember Karl Howman more as Jacko from Brush Strokes.
Do you think some of the production company were fans of 70's American cars, not for the first time we had a Yank boat in an episode. The AMC AMX - not being around London in the mid 70's I wonder were US imports common or were or rare as they are now?

You got the odd American car here and there in the late 70s. Trans Ams were probably the most common, with a few Mustang s. Others in penny numbers, one real rarity I used to see occasionally in Manchester was a mid 50s Packard. The guy used it as his daily driver to go to work in!
