If you check the numberplate of the car hoisted out of the quarry it's the same numberplate that appears on Carter's own car in Sweeney! and in turn the Blue Cortina in some scenes in Faces and the White Cortina in the pre title credits blag in Pay Off.

Just watched Selected Target. A wonderful episode.
In answer to Sam's point about why the airhostess was not questioned, I'd assumed she wasn't even an airhostess but a plant.
Anyone notice Bill Treacher as Kibber's chauffeur - he later played Arthur Fowler in EastEnders for many moons
Both Lee Montague and Ronald Fraser are brillliant. And Maureen Lipman steals the scenes she's in.
The scenes with George standing in for Jack at the team meetings are also classic. Most of the participants puffing away on pipes, cigars and ciggies. Reminds me of my early days in the workplace when it seemed almost obligatory to smoke.
Lee Montague is the star of the show though. A really convincing villain - clever and menacing but without having to do anything much to estabish and maintain his authority, and always a few steps ahead of the cops.

One of my favourite episodes, it's in my top 5. Yes, when I was at work in the 70s everyone smoked, apart from me and a couple of others!

Looking at imdb I see that Annie Lambert, who plays Regan's very jammy pull in the hotel, is the sister of Kit Lambert, deceased manager of The Who & record label owner with his partner Chris ( brother of Terence ) Stamp.

I struggle to believe she was a credible plant. Just on the off chance she bump into Jack or similar ?

I've always just assumed that Jack had just picked her up, not sure it happens so easily in real life ( certainly not these days ). Reminds me of the scene in 'The French Connection' where Popeye Doyle is driving home early in the morning & he sizes up a young girl on a bicycle in front of him on the road, the next scene shows them back at his place in bed together. Like Doyle the flight attendant had just come off a shift tired. There's also a similar scene in 'Law And Order' where Pyle picks up 2 nurses in a pub.

At least Jack is assumed to be quite attractive, I guess! (Id prefer the nurses)
