Good to see you had the time to pop along to the first pair of locations Mick The betting shop with the hall in the background was an inspired bit of detective work. Too right Del. Even the good weather on the Sunday hung around for my Monday afters and I took some smudges for the album. The journey home was eventful with me luckily just avoiding an earlier signal failure at Peterborough although I still arrived back 29 late. The week just gone has been very long and I can’t believe it’s already a week ago that I was in the Toon but great to reflect back on how enjoyable it all was.

Well the meet was the nuts!!…as per!!! It’s such a strange feeling when you’re standing somewhere that is almost unrecognisable………as I said on the day, it was like the film “The Time Machine “………..with the pics to show the vast changes . Get Carter really was a social documentation . But when we can turn our heads and thanks to The Guv see a focal point …..or a small part to recognise on a building in the distance it works ! The meet has been described already in fine detail but what I can add is the pleasure of spending a weekend with brilliant friends…..thanks lads . what a bunch !!!!!! The weekend jus impressed on me even more that as a passionate and proud Londoner …I have to admit that Newcastle is my favourite city !!!! cheers Guv for the impeccable background work and organisation…….jus bloody brilliant !!! long may all the madness continue……..funny as !!! see you soon lads.

Meet 15, the third time the squad had visited Newcastle, was for me much anticipated. This was because, although some of the locations had changed beyond recognition they were some of the most memorable and important in both Get Carter and The Likely Lads films, locations such as Frank Carter's house and The Fat Ox seem to stay in my mind since first seeing the films many years ago. Maybe this is because these areas and communities don't exist anymore, large areas of residential housing mingling with power stations and heavy industry in the heart of towns and cities is a thing consigned to history.
It was clear in both films that the old was making way for the new, but the new has also been cleared away. Terry's tower block is no longer there and most of the estate Glenda was living in has also been raised to the ground.
So with change and change again it is remarkable that these locations have been pin pointed, great work Gene, this must have been one of the most difficult meets to organise. Many thanks.
Overall another great meet with great weather yet again and great to meet up with everyone who make these meets so enjoyable. Cheers to Del, Steve Austin and Dirty Epic for their company in the motor.
Already looking forward to the next one.

These are certainly thorough write-ups, did anyone take any photographs they’d like to share?

Another brilliant meet once again and who doesn't love to spend time up in Newcastle, definitely my favourite city and it was Get Carter and a visit there because of the film many years ago that made me fall in love with the place. It was an early start for me on the Saturday with a 5am train to London then a coach the rest of the way. As soon as I arrived I checked in to the hotel and then met up with everyone in the Crown Posada. Thats a great pub. It was good to see everyone again and catch up from the last meet. It was then back to the hotel for a wash and brush up before we all ventured out for the evening and eating in the Hard Rock Cafe via the sadly shut due to a bereavement Likely Lads pub and finally ending up at The Bridge tavern next to the iconic High Level Bridge. Sunday started with a Spoons breakfast before we all assembled outside the hotel waiting for the off. With the new spin on the locations this time it was absolutely brilliant to go a place that is now totally unrecognisable and to be able to stand on the exact spot that the scenes took place. God know what they thought we were up to at the Vauxhall dealership when we all turned up.🤣 Great detective work Gene to pin point those exact places, top drawer. Now when I watch the film again I know I've stood in the exact place Michael Caine did, superb. After a refreshing pint in The Beehive we spent the rest of the afternoon walking to more locations on the other side of the river including the scrapyard and the flats and also the street from the Likely Lads. The day was rounded off by another night out in the toon with some nice food at Wagamamas. I eventually rolled into the hotel at 2am as some of us found ourselves in Flares nightclub. It was fun though. Soon though it was all over and after a big breakfast in the Queens cafe it was time to say our goodbyes until the next one. Big, big thanks to Gene for setting this up and all the hard work you do in making these things run like clockwork, I can't imagine the hours you put in behind the scenes. Its very much appreciated by us all. Cheers mate.👍 Big thanks to DC Burtonshaw for driving me and John Steed around. Great banter in the car too. Thanks to everyone else for making these weekends so memorable too, you're a great bunch. Also as said earlier it was nice to see an old face from the past. Nice to see you again Albert Riddle. Don't leave it as long next time mate🤣 Take care each and see you on the next one.
BG.

After watching the likely lads film yesterday I saw something I’d never noticed before when watching. Terrys young mum was played by our old Sweeney friend Fran The Honey pot from placer ❤️❤️
Great stuff makes me love it even more ❤️❤️

Sounds like an excellently organised event, again.
Not a surprise since I went on the last one and it was a fascinating day.
Glad to read you all enjoyed it!

It is hard to believe that a week has flown by already, I must admit it has been abit of a difficult week one way or another but I'll not go into that here, suffice to say that when we've enjoyed a weekend as much as we did you do begin to wonder whether it would have been better to stay on and continue in the same vein?
But what a weekend it was! It has been good to read through everyone else's reports and see the words of appreciation that the Guv has so well and truly earned, it is astounding the amount of work he puts in behind the scene to nail these locations. Having done a handful of locations myself I know what effort goes in, the multiple screens open, zooming in for the minutest detail and having the patience of Job until the location is finally and firmly nailed. But then to collate them and produce a video morphing the before and after took it to a whole new level. Like a terrier with a rag? No, just plain tenacity! We've all benefited from it but what a masterstroke the Guv pulled off for us.
For me the weekend started with a trip around the M25 to The Saint's gaff and a good journey up to Newcastle stopping en route for fluids in one end and out of the other before completing the journey, parking up and meeting those already ensconced in The Quayside. A couple of hearty ales later and time to book in to the hotel right alongside the iconic bridge. A quick wash and brush-up before hitting the town and the evening's sight-seeing. As others have mentioned it was a shame that the Black Horse was close but still a treat to see it in the flesh, no keys were lost down the drains in the making of this meet. Still an entirely enjoyable evening ensued with a beverage or three consumed before returning to the hotel in preparation for the following day.
Sunday came and after a very mediocre (i.e. cold) Wetherspoons brekkie we all congregated ready for the day ahead. It was good to see Albert Riddle return to the squad on this occasion and to have a quick catch-up. Although the locations have been covered by previous reports I will say that for me there were a number of stand-out locations that really impressed, these being the location of Frank's gaff and the funeral car now being the front car park of the Vauxhall dealership, the view across the river to where the Sunbeam took a dip, and the locations around the bookies and the post office. The location of the scrap yard also threw up a point of realisation for me in that "Frank's car" was probably just a car already in the scrappy that was picked at random for filming - such are the wonders of a quality film that even a prop like that convinces you that it actually was Frank's car!
And I could go on, lunch at The Beehive, the Hard Rock Cafe, Wagamamas, boozers, nightclub, the weekend had it all but most of all was getting together with a like-minded bunch of blokes from all corners of the UK to appreciate the sights that are there, the sights that are no longer there, and to pay homage to some great films.
Thanks to all that attended for your company, thanks to Carter for being an excellent wheel-man for the meet, thanks to all that insisted on buying me a drink or three, huge thanks to The Saint for the lift to and from Newcastle, and last but by no means least huge thanks to Gene for the work put in, the great company and corresponding insults, and for all the arrangements for yet another unforgettable weekend.
Sam.

First of all apologies for the lateness of my post/report of such a brilliant meet, had a mad busy week or so with some private and personal stuff and the meet deserves a proper post not just a it was great line or two from me. Secondly massive thanks to Gene for putting together such a brilliant few days of locations and laughs straight from the off in Geordieland too some of which you’d never know featured in the things we like in the North East too. I’ve tried to not look at the other posts in this thread but certainly will very soon and my post won’t be a verbatim we did this and that in parrot fashion order. It’ll be more a reflection of what was once again a great weekend one of many we’ve had over the years with varied locations some of which have featured in film/TV we like. Travelled up Saturday with Del, Gene and Steed for liquid lunch on the Quayside in very crisp sunshine on the Tyne. Went bloody cold that weekend compared to what we were used to but much better than the monsoon rains we had a day before or so. Our numbers started to increase over the afternoon and pretty much with everyone here we got set up for an evening out on ‘The Toon’! The Saturday’s have become just as much important part as the Sunday. It breaks the ice and set’s the ball rolling for the Sunday and it was good to catch up with you lads too. Sadly due to personal reasons we blew out on our first location/pub stop The Collingwood Arms in Jesmond which featured in WHTTL Xmas Special, sadly these things happen from time to time but looks a nice boozer I certainly wouldn’t mind checking out next time I’m up that way. Still we were soon to make up for that at The Bridge another institution pub in Newcastle we spent most of the night in more of that in a moment via a meal stop at the Hard Rock Café – alright but take away it’s novelty it’s your usual burger fair. Back to The Bridge good beers, (I think) good whiskies too and had a few laughs and jokes, drinks and smokes until last orders – well did you expect anything else? Set up nicely it was soon Sunday morning, after breakfast it was time to hit the locations and this is where Gene’s knowledge is second to none. Many of these locations from GC and WHTTL we’ve never covered before on a meet and who would have thought an anonymous branch of Greggs in Gateshead’s Pelaw or a Vauxhall car dealership in Benwell would have such a history as the Post Office, Ken Hailes Bookmakers or Frank’s house from Get Carter again it’s down to the hard graft Gene put’s in on this we’ve managed to be where these locations were some of which like The Fat Ox, the scrapyard and Glenda’s flat have all been consigned to history in the name of successful/not so successful regeneration over the last few decades like the Gateshead car park has had in more recent years. I think this has set this meet apart from those we’ve done previously as a lot of these locations have radically changed over the years – possibly very recently, again it’s amazing that Gene can pinpoint these locations to the exact point they existed too. No Sunday is complete without a lunch stop and The Beehive a WHTTLL icon is as good as it gets on a sunny afternoon in the countryside outside Whitley Bay. Good beers and a nice beer garden too a stop I’d fully recommend to anyone who is around that way on a similar day too. The locations tour may have come to an end but it doesn’t mean our Sunday does and after our evening meal time for a pint or three at Old George Inn. Like The Bridge from the night before we sunk a few and rounded the night (or morning) off at Flares to some ‘70’s/’80’s classics… erm some dodgy ‘90’s/’00’s boy/girl bands and various states of boozed up debauchery – and why not! Well what more can you say but massive, thanks to Gene for putting all this together for us. As said a brilliant weekend from the off and we’ve pretty much ticked off the works with the rare locations in the North East too. Nobody does it better and as I’ve said before you’re the best in the business with this too and a great mate too. Thanks pal. Big thanks again to Del for sorting the digs and travel arrangements too as usual much appreciated and had a good laugh with you over the weekend too pal. Thanks also to our wheels man Peter Picard for the driving on the Sunday and to Sam for shouting the meal at Wagamama too much appreciated lads. I’m certainly looking forward to whatever we do next, but I think for now it’s a case of reflection on what has been yet another great meet and once again thanks to Gene for the hard work he’s put into it and to all of us for the contribution we bring to it all and making it such a good weekend and the enjoyable experience these meets are. I’ve said it before we all bring something (sometimes quite diverse) to these meets and for me it’s not necessarily about focusing on the films/TV programmes they’re built around or even their locations it’s about having a bit of fun, laughs and beers with a great bunch of like-minded people (and mates) too. Gene you deserve a nice drink and a break for now and once again thanks very much to you and the lads for making this weekend so brilliant. All the very best everyone DE!
