Re tv cuts, I recently compared the running times of a series ( not The Sweeney ) recorded from tv with the dvd version, when added together there was nearly 30 minutes missing from the 6 episodes. I think ITV4 chop around 6-8 minutes out of the episodes.

Thou Shalt Not Kill has always been one of my very favourite episodes ever since I first watched it.
I haven't seen it for quite a while now, and I think it's about time for another viewing.
Great episode.
Charles.

Started watching this on ITV4 this morning and it seemed cut a bit too much so i put the dvd on. I sometimes forget what a brilliant episode this is though i wonder what it would've been like if it had been filmed at the originally planned location.

Lined this up for a rewatch later today as it’s in my top 5 episodes of all the series. I love the heat haze of the summer of 75 when it was filmed, which was a good summer, but overshadowed by 76. The location was brilliant, loved the 70s concrete buildings

That sounds like it would have been a great location. If they could have stopped the bystanders staring at the cameras. You would think that people would have more sense than to do this.
Thou shalt not kill is a terrific episode as it is though.
Charles.

Although if they didn't we wouldn't have the scene with the old lady recognising them (forget which episode that was) which is priceless!

A supermarket siege would've been effective. There's a very good film from 1975 called "The 'Human' Factor" which features a shoot out in a supermarket at the climax. The film 'Dawn Of The Dead', set largely in a shopping mall, was shot during the night & early hours when the mall was closed, I can't see how filming in such a place could possibly work otherwise.
'Jack Or Knave' is the episode where the woman on the pavement points directly at John Thaw & says 'you're famous!'
