This one was on last night on ITV4, I recorded it and watched it. Good, but not as good as Poppy or Stay Lucky Eh. Probably filmed in the summer of 75, nice 70s summer feel to the outdoor location shots and the sadly departed Lynda Bellingham was hot in the 70s!
A couple of motors were a Leyland Princess, driven by Jack in his undercover role at the Tescos, and I spotted a Mark 2 Escort, which would have been very new then. The Routemaster bus nicked by the Aussie villains I think was a preserved example as it had the London Transport script on the side, by 75 the ones in service would have had the white bullseye logo

I rewatched Trojan Bus last night - the sequel to Golden Fleece with Patrick Mower and George Layton reprising their roles as happy go lucky Aussie crooks Col and Ray
Golden Fleece was more annoying than enthralling - mainly because of the comedic elements, and so it continues with Trojan Bus.
Tonally it just feels totally wrong for The Sweeney - Carter and Regan are playing it straight whilst Ray and Col are doing their annoying comedic (but very unfunny) schtick
Redeeming aspects include some great locations which make it interesting
I also noticed the Tesco featured in the episode has late night shopping one night of the week - it stays open until 7 pm! And don't forget yer Green Shield stamps.
Overall it's a bit of dud though
2/5

Great video Arthur! The Continuity Announcer is Gary Terzza - who also presented CITV around the same time too.
Quote of the episode :
Regan: Wake up you slaaaag!

Is it true there was nearly a spin off series with the two Aussie Characters?
Also a 3rd Sweeney episode planned with the Aussies? - where they broke out of the nick?
Though John & Dennis put a stop to it as they didn't want it turning into the "Col & Ray show". (Rightly so!)

Hi Sparky, I'm fairly certain one of the audio commentaries or the Patrick Mower/George Layton intro on the Network DVD's suggested this was the case, certainly a 3rd Sweeney episode featuring Col 'n' Ray was mooted but perhaps (wisely) it was a stretch too far.
A Col 'n' Ray series might have worked and probably would have played up the more comedy aspects of the characters perhaps similarly to Minder in it's later years, could have even set it in Aus perhaps in association with one of the Australian channels or some of the Col 'n' Ray backstory before they came to the attention of Regan, Carter and Haskins.
I know Col 'n' Ray are (very) much more comedic but I'm sure they're based upon the Kangaroo Gang who used to blag, steal and shoplift across Europe and amongst it's members was the infamous Ray Chuck Bennett who was also involved in Melbourne's infamous Great Bookie Robbery too.
Generally I like Col 'n' Ray and the episodes but they're not go-to classics for me and if you're not in the mood for them.

I sense another thread... "Minder Stories that should have been"
