Nice write up Batgirl. I watch this every couple of months, always feel better after watching it. The closing theme tune is superb too

You can see why they commissioned the series, Regan is high quality stuff. I watch it now and again, probably every couple of years . I never did get round to the Blu Ray version of it though.

It has been a few years since I've seen it too. Mind you I do listen to the end theme from time to time, $6m man is correct in that the tune is superb. Sam.

A review of 'Regan' from the Glasgow Herald. Probably one of those nationalist types.. best ignored

It certainly is a brilliant opener to The Sweeney, love the downbeat bleak tone, with the miserable weather, drizzle on the windscreen of Regan's Granada while he talks about Cowley's death and London looking a bit of a dump in that area in 1974 with the litter blowing about after Jack and George walk away from the snack bar after getting their cuppas. The Randall and Hopkirkesque theme tune and the sight of Cowley's still body on the beach next to the Thames looking very inspired by Get Carter after Jack is shot at the end of the film.

Good post DCB, sums up nicely why we like this and other shows so much. I haven't watched 'Regan' for about eight or nine months so will give it another (welcome) viewing. When it aired in 1974 it wasn't that long since 'Get Carter', 'Villain', 'Villains' and 'Special Branch' had been seen on the large and small screens, plus of course 'Z-Cars' and 'Dixon Of Dock green' were still on at the same time, it was world away from 'Dixon' but had some close connections with 'Get Carter' and 'Villain' due to their influence in feel, style and cinematography and the general grittiness they purveyed. Yes I agree. I actually took a screenshot of the final shot at the cafe and the shot of them walking away (with and without credits) as it looked so rough but right for the scene, but I thought i'd posted enough pics ! I'll post them now. Another location of substance

Great caps Batgirl. That was the (i'll be polite) gritty look of the London I grew up in. Loads of it looked like that until the mid to late 80's when mass redevelopment kicked off.
The longest running big site is just being done now at Battersea power station. It was originally meant to start in 1984 and become a theme park.

I love the end scene of Regan, it sets up the series nicely.

Absolutely Andy. Regan seems a lot more no nonsense in this pilot than in many of the episodes. John Thaw is totally convincing in this maverick role and as we know the portrayal of squad antics throughout lead to a few worried coppers on the job at the time.
